Not a Puppet or a Slave – You Can Never Please Everyone

We deserve some self-soothing advice.

“If you try to figure out what other people think about you, you would get crazy.” This is what I just realized today after I consumed the whole bottle of wine. Yummy…

I was one of those who were tasked to host a big event in our company. After the event, there were mixed feedbacks – both negative and positive. Some said it was good. It was better than expected. And others congratulated us for a job well done. These were from those people who were pleased. I did not try to figure out who really said what specifically. Maybe some of them are just my friends, who are probably trying to boost up my spirit. These people knew there were so many roller coaster situations on stage so they did ‘that’ for the friendship’s sake. Well, I hope not. I hope they were sincere with their appreciations. They can guarantee their handshakes would be placed at the right place in my heart and not in my head.

Expectedly, there are some people who did not like the way we did the hosting. As they say, you cannot please everyone. I can’t defend myself for what wrong I have done. What was done is done. If I would be asked to do that again, I can’t promise to not do that again. What I could only promise is to do better.

If I try to figure what’s running in other peoples’ heads to please them, then I would end up being a puppet or a slave. But I am not a puppet or a slave. I am more than that. I have my own brain. I can do whatever I want to do. I can say whatever I want to say. I can rule my own world above other people’s rules. They are not my Gods! I only have one God whom I decided to offer my surrender.

I was in the corporate world for a long time. There is so much back stabbing and jealousy in that environment. Your party was great and you stepped up and did the work of organizing and hosting. I’ll bet, the ones that critized didn’t offer to help.

Yo go my friend! You have a mind of your own and don’t worry too much what people say. I have learned that people will always have their opinions regardless. I guess it has to do with jealousy most of the time. There are a lot of haters in this world. I am sure that you did a great job. But yes, you are right. If we worry too much about what others say and think, we would go crazy. And those who like to talk crap about others should take a good long look in the mirror before they open their mouth.

    Excellent. well-done. Happy New Year!

I don’t know which is worse: being hateful and negative or lying to make someone feel better. I do feel that it is best to have something kind to say or keep the mouth zipped. I will say I enjoyed reading your post. I agree!

No matter how well you do something, there is always someone who will complain. Ignore them.

We can’t please everyone. At least you stood up and took the task. Perhaps those who are overly critical should hire their own hosts or better yet volunteer themselves for the next event.
