Perfectionists and Non-Perfectionists
A slight dip into a mind of a writer.
Perfectionists strive for perfection in everything. Their jobs, their friends, their homes. They always want things to be clean, straight and looking neat. They make food that they set out on a plate like they are arrange a living room. When something isn’t correct they must change it. No ifs, no buts. When they can’t fix it their life falls apart. If they can’t fix it then what will they do? Everything. They will make that pencil parallel to the rest of the table, they will try to make sure that all the colours in their house match together and they will make sure that their car is clean. They care for everything they see and are always on the verge of having an OCD.
A non-perfectionist is quite the opposite. They do not strive for everything looking neat, but rather see perfection in mess and chaos. Their rooms will be strewn with clothes and items, their cars will be messy, and they’re friends will be mix and match of different personality. They will look at some scruffy writing and think it is amazing. There is no chance that their lives will be taken apart by something neat; they will just not see as much beauty in it. These are the people who graffiti and draw in sketch form. They have no care for being neat at all. They are much, much more different from perfectionists.
The advantages of each? None really. No one is a true perfectionist or non-perfectionist. Not me, not my friends and nor my family. I am a mix of the two. I like to sketch and make things messy because I think they look better, but I would prefer things around me to be neat and tidy. My mom always said that “A messy workspace reflects the workers mind”, but that’s always how I’ve been. Same with my friends. My best friend likes his writing and drawing to be neat, but his bedroom is always a mess. My brother is just messy all the time, but likes to be absolutely perfect in his swimming. Even if your one or the other there is no true disadvantage. You will have your small flaws, but between the two there is no good or bad. There is no “oh well, you should really be like this instead”. Don’t let anything influence you to try to change. Your way is your way.
So why are we like this? I guess it is just how we are all built. Is it something with our personality or do we just have our own preferences? Well I am sure that you know what you are like, whether someone who’s goal is to be amazing and perfect in everything, or your art is someone else’s chaos. You could be a mix, might not be. Trying to discover could be as easy as drawing a picture. Then again, it could be as difficult as watching your own movements for years….
