Pool and Beach Safety
How you can protect a child that can’t swim.
I was raised going on a boat each summer. Each year until my mother taught us how to swim we had to wear a lifejacket. Most people think that lifejackets should only be use when a child is on a boat away from the dock only.
Our parents had us wearing them all the time, even when the boat was at the dock. I once fell off the dock and it kept me afloat till my father got me out of the water.
There was one beach that we would go to that didn’t look dangerous but it was very dangerous. As you would walk in the water away from the beach it was about waist deep which was safe. Unfortunately, not everyone knew that at one point there was a deep dip. It was like going off a step but there wasn’t another one after it. With out a lifejacket on a non swimmer could get hurt.
I use the same rule with swimming pools. My my child went to one even with friends I said she had to wear one. I don’t care what other people think. My main concern is my child’s safety.
If a child can’t swim even being on the floating things are not safe should they fall off.
