Press Towards Your Goals

Never give up your hopes or dreams.

Pressing onwards towards your goals is something we all wish to continue to do. But at times we feel that perhaps there is no light at the end of the tunnel…

That goal you aspire to reach just seems that bit too far to many of us at times that possess ambition. Demoralised, many of us simply give up and slide back to a more mundane and “normal” existence, living day to day as we always have. But at times, when we have done that we sometimes look back with a nagging doubt that remains as we think, “What if I had the courage and determination to haver pushed through…”

“Without dreams we are nothing”, is something I have heard a thousand times. Inspirational words and more so to a writer with a vivid imagination.

It is something I talk to my little five year old son about. I know he understands. He tells me every morning what he has dreamt about-some good, some bad. Perhaps even more enlightening is his grasp at humanity at such an early age and how he understands what it means to achieve and succeed. I take comfort from that, despite knowing at times such a small child has his own hidden pressures of life.

His favourite team is Tottenham Hotspur and he is a great little soccer player for his age. He is a fan of Luka Modric and he aspires to one day kick a ball about as a professional and yes, playing for his beloved team Spurs.

Like any good parent I encourage him to achieve his goals. But I do not promise he will achieve his ambition. But I also do not hold him back. All I do is tell him to follow his dreams and with hard work, dedication and inspiration, maybe he too could become that very thing he aspires to be. But what I said to him was that even if he does not end up doing that as a job, the fact he gave it his best shot and whilst doing so was enjoying his “dream”, then to know come achieve or fail, he actually won…

At five he is intelligent enough to understand and smiles knowing with dedication and hard work he may just get there and enjoy the challenge too. But he is also clear that should he fail, he has a lot to offer himself and life too. That is grounded but also his dream stays alive.

Striving towards goals and keeping focused is something I taught my three children. A good moral standing in society is all I asked of them and tried to show them how to gain it. I encouraged them to ignore the doubters, and believe in themselves. They are adults now and have fantastic jobs and lives, the continue to focus on moving forward and achieving goals.

I do hope your lad plays for Spurs one day, DH is a supporter and a Smy (Jimmy), played for them in the ’30’s. :)

We should never let go of our dreams, and if we have no choice, we can always find new ones. There are so many interesting things to do in this world. We should never run out of new ideas.

“Without dreams, we are nothing.” I totally agree with you 100%. In life, we have to be passionate and have a purpose. Sometimes and it happens to all of us we can feel unfocused or motivated. When that happens, the best thing to do is go to a quiet place and meditate or reflect. Thanks for the prayer. For those who don’t believe in God, they don’t know what they are missing. Faith is a plus. We must trust God and ourselves most of all. A lot of people give up when it seems hard, but you must work hard and persevere if you do want to achieve all your goals. Good example that you are giving your 5 year old son. A great article and inspirational.
