Raising Up Your Self Confidence
Sometimes we find a period of being fearful and worried in certain moments. Here’s some tips how to eliminate them.
Few days ago, I went to Sentul City for applying job in an institution there. It’s a highly reputable institution in my placeI took a small bus from home to a bus stop in Semanggi Road, then I continue my trip there by using a big bus.
The trip took one and half an hour. Getting exhausted because of the long trip, I began to think that I would have a terrible interview. I was afraid that I would get nervous during the interview.
The bus almost arrived, then I asked the conductor where the institution is. He showed the location, in which it was exactly near to the location where I stopped. Then I directly went there.
As soon as I arrived, the security officer came closer to me, asking why I came there. After explaining why, he then asked me to wait for a moment. Being nervous still, I sat down on a chair. The fear and worried of being fail got bigger. Afraid, afraid, and afraid.

Realizing that I was trapped by my own state of mind, I tried to calm down myself by taking a deep breath slowly, then filled it in my stomach. I did it few times. The next step, I looked into my mind. I figured out my fear, put it into a rectangle frame, trying to recognize what it was. At that time, I recognized that I was afraid of unable to answer questions since my English capabilities is not really good.
After recognizing it, I made a suggestion, said that the frame would be smaller and smaller. At the same time, I recalled the happiest moment in my life from my memory, trying to make it clearer and bigger. Slowly but sure, the happy picture replaced the frightened one. The fear then was eliminated, my confidence raised up.
Just being short, I follow then the interview made by the institution. When following the interview, I had no more fear left in my mind. We had a nice conversation, me and the interviewers, one of them is a native speaker who becomes the principal there. I found this as a nice experience in my life, while enjoying the situation in Sentul City also. It was fun experience.
At the end of this article, I would like to share these steps(hopefully it will be useful) as a reflection from my experience. If you feel afraid of something, follow these steps:
- Take a deep breath. Fill it into your stomach. Do it until you feel relax deeply.
- Close your eyes. Create a frame in your mind. You can choose it circle or rectangle to your own like.
- Figure out your fear.
- Put it into the frame. Never let it bigger than the frame.
- Recognize the fear(what it is, why is it so, etc.)
- Recall your happiest moment from your memory.
- At the same time, suggest the fear to be smaller eventually, then disappear, whereas you suggest your happiest moment bigger and bigger. Let it feel you deeply.
- Keep on taking a deep breath.
- After some time, try to count, 1…,2…,3…and….open your eyes slowly and smoothly. You’ll be different. You will feel happy and more confident.
