Realize Your Potential
" No more shall rouse them from their lowly bed…"
When I read this line ” No more shall rouse them from their lowly bed” from Elegy Written in a Country Churchyard by Thomas Gray,I begin to reflect over the possibilities which the villagers missed in his poem.It is an elegy and very rightly sympathizes with the unknown departed souls who could have fared better had they got chance to show their potential. One question that troubles me is whether our potential is made known to us by others and we wait for their assent before being successful.
We are born with a great potential, but it is only a potential. We can die without realizing it; we can miss the target if we don’t move consciously, with awareness. If we just remain driftwood at the mercy of the winds and the waves, if we remain accidental, then there is every possibility we will miss.
Realizing our own potential is the most important thing. And that is why you see so many people in such misery. The misery has no outer cause, it is rooted in their missing the target. They are all feeling something is being missed. They are not even aware what it is exactly, but one thing is certain: everybody who is carrying the seeds has not grown. Something has not blossomed.
This blossoming is the miracle which is in one’s own hands. The seed is bound to be miserable; only a flower can dance in the wind, in the rain, in the sun. Only a flower can sing its song, the song of bliss.Only a flower knows its fulfillment, contentment. Only a flower feels at ease with existence. The seed cannot feel at ease; it is closed, it has no connection, it knows nothing of the moon and the sun and the stars, it has not even heard about them, it knows nothing of the flowers and the colors and the rainbows and the songs of the birds and the humming mantras of the bees, it knows nothing of it;but somewhere hidden in it there is a longing to know it all. That longing remains confined.
Now what is required is intelligence. Become silent, aware, meditative, and your intelligence will start growing; and one day the seed will burst forth. That day is the greatest day of rejoicing, when your flower comes, when the spring comes to your inner world, when you become a garden.
People often complain that it is not possible for everyone to succeed in life, but I say to them to decide first what their definition of success is.
My students, out of curiosity, often ask how all of them could be successful and happy in their lives. I tell them to realize their potential and let seed grow into flower, and then they will feel the eternal bliss which will provide infinite contentment.
Bless you all.
