Reducing Stress by Boosting Your Self Esteem

It is self esteem which is the key to your success and happiness and it is one of the most important factors in determining your effectiveness as a human being.

Self Esteem is:

  • having a feeling of confidence and competence to function successfully in life and trusting in oneself.
  • approving and unconditionally loving yourself
  • the willingness to be foolish
  • being able to express one’s creativity and trusting in one’s intuition
  • being authentic and genuine so that one’s real self can be experienced
  • the ability to see oneself as the cause and source of one’s circumstances in life, so that one may take responsibility for it.

Ways to Improve Your Self Esteem:

  1. List all the things that you like about yourself and don’t like. Work on the things you don’t like if possible otherwise learn to appreciate the things you cannot change
  2. Respect other people’s thoughts and feelings
  3. Frequently acknowledge others by telling them that you like and appreciate them especially your family , friends and workmates.
  4. List ten things that you enjoy doing and do them frequently.
  5. Be more assertive and speak up for yourself. This can be done by asking for what you want as well as by expressing your thoughts and feelings.
  6. Expereince the pleasure of deep breathing.
  7. Stand in front of a full length mirror naked and tell yourself “I love you” for 5 minutes (try it for half and hour and see what happens).
  8. Don’t take yourself so seriously and be able to laugh with others at life and yourself.
  9. Display your picture in the home.
  10. Acknowledge your successes and accomplishments and give yourself a pat on the back for your wins.
  11. Start enhancing yourself by going to workshops and seminars and invest money in yourself
  12. Give yourself permission to be lazy and to do the things that you want to do at times.
  13. Be your own best lover by treating yourself lovingly every change you get.
  14. See the strengths in the people that you meet
  15. Stop putting yourself down and being critical of yourself.
  16. Build a lifestyle that generates and nourishes your self worth.
  17. Wear clothes that you feel good in.
  18. Allow yourself to accept acknowledgments and compliments and don’t invalidate their positive thoughts and feeling about you.
  19. Stop comparing yourself with others and see yourself as being of equal worth.
  20. Put integrity in your life and always tell the truth.
  21. Focus your attention onto enjoying the present rather that living in the past of future.
  22. Begin to see yourself as being self sufficient rather than needing relationships.
  23. Learn from your mistakes and see them as valuable lessons rather than feeling guilty about them.
  24. Replace your thoughts of being inferior and inadequate. Generate positive thoughts of feelings of love and acceptance.
  25. Stop blaming others for your life circumstances and give up the “victim” act. Begin to see yourself as the cause or source of what happens to you
  26. Treat yourself as you would divinity….. for your are divine!!!
