Restaurant Etiquette on Splitting The Check
The horrors of dining with folks who always want to split the check!
Dining out with friends and family at a popular restaurant is usually a fun-filled enjoyable experience. Usually. The exception to the rule is when you dine out with individuals who insist upon splitting the check 50/50 and then proceed to gorge themselves on high-priced menu items. Has this ever happened to you?
Maybe these folks aren’t aware of what they are doing, but then again, maybe, just maybe they are shrewd characters that just so happen to enjoy eating scrumptious dishes on other people’s dime. I don’t mean to sound petty, but I will be a generous giving individual when and where I choose to be – not strong-armed in public!
My greenbacks are hard earned just as theirs. If this offends any of my fellow diners, so be it. Maybe I am offended by your lack of courtesy in never extending free meals to me!
I can almost guarantee that if we requested separate tickets your appetite would not be quite so healthy.
A true friend would reciprocate in turn – not because they feel pressured, but out of respect and kindness. I work hard to earn my bread and butter. So the next time I am dining out with someone and they want to split the tab, I’ll be okay with their request – just as long as they understand I will order for both of us. If my hard earned bread and butter is paying for us both I will order those very meals – bread and butter! Bon appétit!
