There is no time like now to be in control of what happening to you. You must come to feel that no one can force you to retire; this decision is in your hands and you know how and when to implement it.
This is why it is so important that you are contributing in meaningful and rewarding way and not allowing yourself to drift along with the circumstances of life. And the best way to achieve this is with a reality check.
Be realistic about your health and skills
- Learn how to assess and measure your personal skills against market-place demands.
- You must discover ways to learn what others’ opinions of your performance is and how to put this in a positive light.
- Learn how others in your situation have negotiated favorable situations in retirement or in lieu of retiring
What are your financial and lifestyle needs and desires?
- You need to determine your financial planning criteria and a realistic strategy before you take the next step.
- You may discover your needs are different from what you anticipated when you take a fresh look at what you want to accomplish with your life at this point.
- You may need professional help get it.
Then act confidently on your information by becoming involved. Apply your preferred skills to activities that mean the most to you in settings that feel good. Your Golden Years can and should be a productive and fulfilling part of your life.
And while rest is important we all need to have something that makes us want to get up in the morning for. So sleeping or golf alone isn’t enough! “And you will find that it is always better for a man to wear out his shoes than his sheets”
