Energy Through Nature
There are a few outdoor places where I like to relax and practice self-hypnosis. My favorite spot is located just a few minutes from where I live. It’s a river bank where trees and wild bushes surround me, providing shelter if it rains. No matter what the weather is like, I always make it my business to go there at least once a day. To be honest, I prefer it when it’s raining, because that usually means having the riverbank all to myself. In this quiet and tranquil location, large rocks burst out of the river. When the rushing water makes contact with them, it creates a wonderful sound. So while I sit and listen, breathing regularly and deeply, I begin focusing my attention on two things: first, on my breath; and then I focus at a single point on the river. When I’m sure I feel deeply relaxed, I begin breathing with positive suggestion. Now I move into a light state of trance with my eyes open. The sound of the river gets clearer; smell and color becomes richer. The rushing water appears to slow down as my five senses shed a new light on how I perceive things. By joining my index finger to my thumb on each hand, I create what’s known as an anchor. Then I say to myself, “Safe place.” By creating an anchor and saying, “Safe place,” at the same time, I am now giving my subconscious a direct signal to understand that this anchor represents the good feelings I associate with being at the river. This means that when I’m at home using self-hypnosis, by creating the same anchor with my hands, I can automatically bring up the images and good feelings I associate with the river.
The natural environment has an abundance of energy, especially where there are trees and greenery to be found. When you admire the beauty of nature through the senses, it gives off an energy that the body absorbs. The way you maximize this energy is by opening your eyes in appreciation of what surrounds you. This is done through deep breathing and concentrated attention. For those who live hectic lifestyles and work busy office jobs in the city, it can sometimes be hard to find time during the week to go for a nice walk in the hills, or spend an hour or two in the local park. After a while, noise, traffic, concrete buildings and a general lack of scenery all take their toll on your energy. If you work or live in the city, or both, make it your business to get to the local park whenever you can, or take a trip down to the country at weekends. It will do your energy levels the world of good.
