Q: What is empowerment?
A: This is a term usually used with regards to self help and self confidence. In the dictionary it is described as either being supplied with an ability for something or as an investment of some kind of power. We might know the word as empowering yourself with the authority needed to complete a task or to achieve a goal.
There are 10 simple things you can do now to become more empowered tomorrow and they are as follows:
· Figure out exactly what it is you want. How can you empower yourself and give yourself the authority needed to reach a goal if you do not know what the goal actually is. There are many things that you might want to do; boost self confidence, get a better job, and enjoy your family life more, the list can go on and on. You need to have a definitive answer – you can’t just want happiness, this isn’t a goal. Being happy with that you look is. Be clear about what you want to achieve.
· Commit yourself to the cause. There is no point in trying to find empowerment to complete a task or reach a goal if you have no commitment to it. You must give yourself whole heartedly to the task at hand otherwise it will never happen. If you are only kind of thinking of giving up smoking or becoming tee-total, you can’t find empowerment as you are not one hundred percent sure.
· Write down a list of all of the goals that you want to achieve or the successes you want to have. By doing this you can then see clearly what steps need to be taken to achieve each goal and the problems that you have faced before when you have not reached empowerment. Make this list of goals a map of your life so to speak.
· Involve other people in your journey towards empowerment. You might find that a coach or a mentor can keep you on the right track just as you would employ a personal trainer to help you to get fit. Sometimes it is leaning other people that will help you to achieve your goals and when you are feeling down, you can rely on these people to give your self confidence a boost and to get back on the right track.
