Setting Lifetime Goals
So what do you really want in life?
The first question which needs to be answered before any other questions is what you want in life. So what do you really want in life? For some people this is an easy question to answer especially if they have spend there life thinking about what they really want it to be. For other’s this might be a more challenging question. For those who find it hard to answer this question, the best way to attack this is to divide it into categories. Feel free to add to these categories or not to include some as these are examples.
1. Career – If you don’t have a career or don’t have the career you want, this is the time to look at what you really want to do in life. If you are already in the career you want to be in, maybe you are thinking you want a better position or better pay.
2. Education – Do you need more education to fulfill what kind of career you wish to have? Do you wish to learn a certain subject for your own pleasure?
3. Family – Do you already have a family? Do you want a family? How big of a family do you want to have? How will this impact other areas of your life such as your career?
4. Financial – One of the most important questions, how much money to you want to make? Own your own house? Move? College funds for kids? Debt? Think about what kind of financial life you would like to have?
5. Physical – what kind of physical health would you like to have? Do you wish to maybe eat better, lose weight, or just get the physical that you have been putting off.
6. Pleasure – Think about the things which bring you pleasure. Do you do these things now or have they gone on the back burner?
7. Attitude – Do you have a good mindset or is your attitude holding you back from what you really want to have. If you have a negative attitude it might hold you back from what you want to accomplish.
8. Public Service – Do you want to do any kind of public service in your life, and if so what kind and how much.
Knowing what you want in many different areas of your life will take you on the first step of creating the life you want to have. Write down for each of the categories specific and attainable dreams, goals, or idea you have. With each category filled, you will have an exact picture of what you want your life to be like. Make sure to look at any areas that might clash against each other, such as your career and family life. Picture what you would want that clash to work out towards. By looking at your life time goals you can get an idea of where you need to go to reach these goals.
