Should We Do as Others Do?

We should do as others do but to some extent only, depending on the subject concerned.

Life is not entirely based on copying and following people.  In some cases, we must follow what the society tells us to do in order not to be left centuries behind.  But, on the other hand, we must not do what people do blindly and then fall into the precipice.  We should do as others do but to some extent only, depending on the subject concerned.

I think that when we do as others do, we already get an idea of what we will be going through.  For example, on the field of education, one can have an idea of how to make the choice of subjects by taking advice from one’s parents, friends and brothers or elders.  Another advantage of following others is that we have the support and friendship of others.  We will not be neglected or be considered as the odd one.  We will form part of the group and loneliness will never prevail.

There are also many disadvantages of doing as others do.  Firstly, we just follow society – fashion, computerisation…; what friends tell us to do but usually do things that we dislike.  We follow them either to impress them or to please them.  The more we follow our friends against our wish, the more hateful to be in groups we become, we do not get personal satisfactory and lack of team spirit grows.  In second place, we tread on the path and do what they do although we do not have the ability, we continue to follow them, thus ending up down the cliff.

Even if there are more advantages than disadvantages to do as other people do, I still think that it would be best for every person to stand on his own feet.  In doing so, we get to develop many good qualities in us.  We must have guts and possess courage.  We must build a strong personality in ourselves.  We must have the ability to defend ourselves well.  Facing difficult moments and situation as well as problems should be done courageously and with confidence.  Thus, we become more sure of ourselves and get personal satisfaction.  We prepare ourselves to confront the society, being at last independent, confident and feeling bald.  Doing what we like also helps to develop our sense of responsibility.

However I admit that we have to follow others to a certain limit.  We can follow the changing fashion, the computerising world but must follow the level of higher and better education which is now a value to be achieved in society or else we are nothing.
