Showing Others the Joy of Reading
Reading is the key to everyone’s future, especially in today’s society. Encourage a child to pick up a book, even if his first book has only photos, its a step in the right direction.
Showing Others The Joy of Reading
Reading is one of the oldest past times, and quite enjoyable at that.
Some read for enjoyment, while other are researching information; or perhaps your tucking in you little boy and your read to him, his favorite book.
Reading is the key to our future, especially in today’s world; year ago, and not so long ago many students were graduating High School with a fifth grade reading level. It makes me stop and wonder, where those students are today.
Teach your children the love of reading by showing them! How do you show someone how to love reading? You show it by doing it yourself. If your son or daughter sees you reading and writing they will be more inclined to do the same. Children learn to read at a very young age, they recognize the stop sign, and they understand the symbol for men and ladies restroom. Which is the first step to their ability to read. Once you can recognize that they can read signs, is a great time to introduce letters and numbers. It is up to you to nurture their ability by giving them the equipment they need, such as easy to read books and your undivided attention.
There are only so many books one family can purchase, but the library is loaded with book, from the simplest to the most complex books to read. At a library he will see that other people just like you and him are reading, looking for books, you two are not the only two people who likes to read. As time goes on, stretch his mind by introducing a book a little beyond his level, see how he does. Read with him and see if it is too challenging, if you challenge him beyond his ability you will turn him off. While at the library let him pick a few books of his own, and then together pick one that may be interesting, if he starts to read it and likes it great. If he decides he does not like it, that is alright as well; the next time your at the library do the same thing eventually his mind will begin to stretch as he advances in school.
Most important thing is to let your children see you read, not just the newspaper, but books; and if your lucky enough over time, you will both be reading the same books and you will be able to discuss the plot, ideas and ending.

Reading can be fun for a child, if they are approached in the right way.
