Six Ways to Regain Balance When You Life is Spinning Out of Control

Today more and more people are complaining that they feel as if their lives are spinning out of control. They are busy, exhausted, anxious, fearful and depressed. Consequently they lose their zest for life, interest in their jobs and the motivation to accomplish the simplest goals. It is possible to regain your balance and resume some measure of control.

Take regular scheduled time-out from the hassles of everyday life: your job, your business, your studies, family responsibilities and other commitments. Devote time to a hobby or some other leisure activity that relaxes your body, calms your mind and nourishes your spirit. Well-deserved breaks ensure that you give your best efforts to your daily tasks.

4. Re-define how you work. There is comfort in doing the same things in the same way all the time. But the “same old, same old” creates a culture of mediocrity and indifference. Then gradually you morph into a walking zombie, dissatisfied with your job and frustrated with your life.

Review the routines and processes that get you through your day and the many tasks on your plate. Re-define your work and the importance of your input in reaching its immediate and long-term goals. Look at the benefits to you, your quality of life and how it can assist you in reaching your own personal goals. Re-define how you will approach the work you do to ensure that you add value to your input, strengthen your dedication and receive the satisfaction that comes from a job well-done.

5. Delegate. Because you can do something doesn’t mean that you should. Allow someone else to flex their muscles, spread their wings, step out of their comfort zone and try. If there are tasks or chores you hate, that’s even more reason to delegate to people who are capable and will welcome the opportunity to show their mettle.

Contrary to what you might believe, delegating gives you a sense of being in control because you consciously choose what you will and will not do in your career and in your daily life. It also empowers you to stand up for yourself and assume only those responsibilities that you can undertake efficiently and gives you satisfaction that you are emboldening someone else and strengthening their self-confidence.

6. Schedule regular maintenance. Instead of waiting for special holidays, like Christmas, to give your home an overhaul, schedule quarterly clean-ups that include de-cluttering and reorganizing. You could either undertake a portion of each chore in every room or assign certain rooms to one quarterly schedule do a complete sweep.

An added bonus is that when you spread out these kind of tasks throughout the year, you are never caught struggling to make a Christmas Eve or some other deadline. As a matter of fact, from one quarter to the next, your home can always be visitor-ready after a quick and effortless spin with your duster, vacuum cleaner, mop and broom. In a wink and a nod, you can entertain like the consummate host. More importantly, a home that is not perfect but clean, comfortable and nurturing in its design and decoration, entertains the people who live within its walls.

We can’t control all the areas of our lives but these tips will help you to regain your balance on life’s merry-go-round and accomplish the things that are important to you at work, at home and in your personal life.
