Solo Flight
Have you faced your fears sometime in life in order to confront your future with greater zest?

Being alone is something most of us don’t usually prefer to do. Given the option each of us will likely resort to a company of friends or relatives in making dangerous trips to the mountains, forests, sailing through rough seas, or simply in moving through a busy city. But there are moments where we have to be alone in facing certain necessities in our lives. Of course taking a bath and going to the toilet had and always been a solo affair. In school, we had been accustomed to listen to lessons in a classroom with our classmates but exams had and always been a confidential matter and strictly no looking beyond our own armchairs. Medical exams are being done just the same, we could always opt for our kind of doctor to see beneath our skins, however (speaking of gender). The trip to the operating room is another lonely matter; surgeries could either be a new lease on life or a step to the gurney to be transported to the mortuary.

It was one lonely Thursday morning the 26th of January years back when I was in the same situation facing my own fears after being the last pilot trainee left unable to fly a single engined plane on my own. The training aircraft was a Cessna 150G, a reliable flying machine more than anything else only if I could rely on myself to fly it. The weather for the day was a bit gloomy but despite of some cloudy cover, visibility was in tolerable limits to allow a VFR (Visual Flight Rule) flight to be made within San Fernando Airport in La Union (Philippines). My three classmates in training have done everything for me and I simply performed my pre-flight inspection of the aircraft before my flight instructor joined me for an evaluation flight prior to deciding should I be able to fly on my own.

It was an enjoyable post and you shared so much experience with us here. I’d try to have a chance to fly a solo flight freely in the air. Great post! Clicked you “liked it”

Ohhhh so much tension but a beautifully presented post about you true love of flying. It must have been a mind blowing experience, up there so high and alone. Lets hope we deal with our \’final\’ lone journey as well as you did this one.

Thank you for sharing your personal experience with the rest of us. I am sure that most of us would rather be in the company of others rather than alone but being alone gives us that opportunity to face our fears the same way it happened to you. Fear is not such a bad thing. Feel the fear and keep doing it. It will always be present just as long as we don’t allow the fear to control us and stop us. A great post as always.

Great anecdote! You have both literally and metaphrically have flown solo and survived it. My congratulations. Best of luck for the next flights as well!

I just remembered flight 815 in LOST. One of the main characters is a pilot ( can;t remember his name). He was able to land their copter on water & saved everyone when they ran out of fuel.
Kudos to conquering your fear!
