Sport: The REAL Social Network

by Mark Collins in Advice, March 24, 2009

Be active while making lifelong friends.

One of the most exciting forms of entertainment is sport. It is enjoyable for those who watch as well as those who participate. Whatever your game, playing sport can take you places.

These days, we are consumed with information and technology. We can find out anything about anyone with the click of a mouse. It seems, nothing is sacred. Sporting clubs are being replaced by online networks. However, the very existance of any sporting club is the social activity that comes with it. The game itself is not always the main focus. Many people play sport just to interact with other people. Team-mates are just that, mates. Lifelong friendships are formed on the sporting field, even at the elite level, where the focus is always on the game.

Health and fitness are big issues in today’s world. Being active is of most importance. Local sporting clubs are struggling still because people just don’t have time for sport anymore. What could be more important than spending one day or one night of the week being active and having fun with mates?

So, instead of updating your status for people you’ve never met, enjoy the company of the people you have. Get out, get active and get a life!
