Spotting a Lie
Become a living, breathing, lie detector.
Lie detectors are not really accurate. As a matter of fact, lie detectors can only tell if someone is feeling guilt. Lying is done to mask the truth, whether your intentions are good or only to cover up a wrong doing. Learn the basics to spotting when a statement is true or if its false.

When someone…
1. Reaches for his nape- he is trying to make a story up to back up a lie.
2. Thrusts his chin- trying to conceal anger
3. Talks too fast- speeds up his speech so you won’t be able to catch up on what he is saying to avoid further questioning. This also means he is makeing up most of the things he says.
4. Looks away- lied about the statement
5. Sudden eye and lip movement- usually done unconciously when giving a false statement
6. Avoids eye contact- result of guilt and pressure
7. Caressing one’s hand- done for self comfort when pressured and guilty
8. Speaks high-pitched- done when nervousness
9. Suddenly recalls details- tries to make a lie sound factual with more lies to support it.
10. Excessive smiling- usually done to mask white lies.

Very good. Sometimes when a person asks that a question be repeated he is seeking more time to create an answer.

Good piece, I seem to spot lies or “stories” easy since my cousin is bipolar and does it A LOT. I would be in the place of her lie and she would try and make me think I forgot what really happened

A very interesting and informative piece. I liked the hint about the nape of the neck–I knew someone who did that a lot.

But people who are born sensitive might do all those things from the mere thought that someone would imagine they were lying.
