Take a Chance- Follow Those Dreams

How many of you out there REALLY have the courage to do what YOU want to do in your life? What I mean is, how many of you are willing to follow your dreams eventhough those around you may think you’re silly, doubt you or think you’re just plain crazy? It’s kind of a tough question when you really think about it. It can sometimes be really tough to follow your dreams. Mainly because of a little thing called doubt. Doubt can be a bad mamma jamma but you got to try and use that doubt as motivation to try even harder at what you want to be, no matter where it comes from, be it family, friends or loved ones. I’m a prime example. I was so focused on being a business major, which is what my family and friends thought I should major in, that it took me a while to realize what was best for me. I wasted several years chasing a dream that wasn’t even my own dream, they were other folks dreams of what I should be…..but what about me? Once I finally took time out to decide what was best for me, I pursued writing with all of my heart. Now instead of struggling with business equations and formulas, I could now focus on reading and writing and improving upon my craft. I will admit that there were people close to me that doubted what it was that I wanted to do with my life, and honestly, it kind of hurt my feelings. But, instead of letting those feelings and thoughts get the best of me, I used them as motivation. I finished my schooling and I worked as hard as I could on my writing and I continue to work hard every day. The important thing to remember is, I don’t just work hard to prove those doubters wrong. I work hard to be the best I can be, at what I want to be….a writer. So for those of you young and old, don’t be afraid to persue YOUR dreams, not what everyone thinks you should do or be. You know better than everyone else what’s best for you.  No one wants to look back on their life and be haunted by one huge question……What if????
