Out of all the emotions experienced by man, happiness is one which takes precedence over all others. The desire to be happy is a universal one and all of us work hard to realize this desire. It is indeed, easy and possible to be a happy person and spread joy and sunshine all around you. Here are ten simple ways for you to be happy and truly, joyful with life.
- Do Something You Enjoy- Doing something that you like and enjoy doing is bound to make you happy. Each day, spend at least ten minutes, engaged in an activity that brings you peace and happiness. It could be reading a good book, going for a walk, exercising or knitting; basically doing anything that doesn’t feel like work and in fact, gives your mood a boost and raises your spirits.
- Indulge Yourself- Pampering yourself and feeling good about the way you look is again, a sure shot way of being happy. A positive self-image is key to a positive frame of mind. If you get up everyday and find yourself looking dowdy and frumpy, you’re bound to feel depressed and sad. However, if you take the time out to dress well, eat healthy and be well-groomed, not only would you look good, but you would feel good as well.
- Exercise- The benefits of regular exercise are manifold. Exercising releases endorphins which are mood-boosting hormones and so, after a good exercise session, you would feel much better emotionally as well as physically. Do any form of exercise – walking, jogging, yoga or aerobics. You would be rewarded with a fitter body and a happier state of mind.
- Meditate- Meditation is the process of calming and relaxing the mind. When there is a lot of stress and strain, meditating every day would bring peace and harmony. - Connect with People- Happiness is often, increased when we are with people who care about our well-bring. A lonely person is often, a sad person. - Make Friends- Meeting new people and forming new relationships will surely bring in a breath of fresh air to our life and therefore, make the effort to step out of your comfort zone and reach out to people. - Smile More – The simple act of smiling is enough to make us feel happy. Often, we don’t realize it but we tend to get too serious and forget to smile. Smiling is infectious, so spread the sunshine and smile more often.
- Play- Yes, that’s right. As children we were often, the happiest when at play. So, even as adults, playing will definitely, raise our spirits and make us feel happy and joyful. Get a pet to play with or if you have kids, cousins, nephews or nieces, play with them. Let your inner child out and let go off all inhibitions as you laugh and play to your heart’s content.
- Think Positive – Start looking at the good in your life instead of focusing on what’s not working. Appreciate the small but important feel-good things that happen to you each day. Be grateful and express your thankfulness, either in a journal or verbally. An attitude of gratefulness and a positive outlook would keep you feeling happy at all time and in all situations.
- Learn To Tackle Difficulties- We tend to feel dejected and sad mostly, when faced by obstacles, challenges and other difficulties.
