The Meaning of Life
A brief step into the human mind and an attempt to answer an age old question.
Have you ever pondered the meaning of life? I mean really stepped back to take in the wholeness that is your existence in this world. So few people in this modern racetrack we call life ever take the time to examine there inner self. Do you ask your self what if? If I was put in the position to save someone’s life would I do it? Would you step in the path of a bullet for your fellow man or walk out in front of a speeding bus to make that shove? Everyone I know would answer the question immediately and unequivocally “ Of course I would”, but is this true? We all want to believe on the surface that we have it within ourselves to step forward and be a hero. We watch movies of men and women accomplishing amazing feats of bravery on the television. To see this fills us with hope for tomorrow and our impending future on this earth. To be honest about the question is that about twenty-five percent of people would put themselves in harms way to a least save a child. To have that chance to be a hero and this is a wonderful thing.
Before we fill ourselves with pride about this very encouraging number there are other questions to ponder though. The smaller things in life that are not of such a grand scale in the scheme of things. How about the questions of morality that are so important. Would you stand by and let someone be wrongly blamed for an act that they were not guilty of. Would you have the inner strength to step forward and face ridicule because you were defending someone against popular belief. How about something even smaller like allowing someone defenseless to be antagonized for being different. Would you be brave enough to berate these aggressors’ because you were able to defend yourself.
It seems that I rant and rave about the things that we have all heard before but never truly listened to. Well I do have a point to make about life and the meaning there in.
The overall theme of these questions that I have laid before you is that the true meaning of life is inside us. The most painful of all things is to look within ourselves and lay judgment. How do you realize that you are riddled with flaws and still find the strength to raise your eyes to the reflection in the mirror? The answer is that the bravest of all men are the ones that realize evil lives within them. We are all capable of murder, rape, and thievery but we do not want to admit this. We bury our evil thoughts and carry on with our daily lives but the cruelty still remains. Once again you ask what is the point of all this?
My final statement will have to be this. The right things in life are never the easy ones. If a path is smooth you have taken the wrong road. Man is good and man is evil but what makes us great is that we have the potential to keep our beasts at bay. Look inside yourself everyday and ask the question what if? To do this is to achieve the true meaning of life. This meaning is to everyday leave the world a slightly better place than it was before. Take what you have learned of yourself and pass it on to the young minds around you. They say one flap of a butterflies wings can affect the future to come so what are you capable of? Never forget that one person can change the world.
