The Perfect Working Life

Some simple steps to transform and alleviate a working person’s hectic life.

Now let’s be honest, we all want desperately not to have to work… but such a utopia might never be attainable.

What I propose, however, is a series of small changes that can retain us our jobs and yet still leave more room for lethargy than ever before!

I am hoping to initiate a great movement that will see the adoption of the below steps in all civilised societies, so take heed!

Step 1 – The Inverted Week

Currently the week is laid out thus: Mon – Fri are working days and Sat – Sun are the Weekend, which we strive to keep to ourselves.

I propose inverting this to give us Mon – Fri off and Sat – Sun as work.

Simple, practical, perfect!

Step 2 – The Elongated Festivities

Christmas is a time we look forward to for months in advance and miss for months afterwards. So why does it fly by so quickly! Because we are having so much fun? Well, in part, yes of course! But in truth it goes by so fast because it is so short!

One day for Christmas Eve, one day for Christmas Day and one day for Boxing Day! That is just insane, particularly for something that only comes around once a year!

And so I propose this: two days for Christmas Eve, three days for Christmas Day and three days for Boxing Day (to wind down). I would also insist that Both New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day be as public holiday, and so the Christmas calendar would look something like this:

23rd – Christmas Eve

24th – Christmas Eve

25th - Christmas Day

26th - Christmas Day

27th – Christmas Day

28th – Boxing Day

29th – Boxing Day

30th - Boxing Day

31st - New Year’s Eve

1st   - New Year’s Day

2nd – Back to Work!

Now isn’t this better and, let’s face it, nobody does any work over this period anyway!

Step 3 – The Evening Meal Act

Every single person should be able to arrive home with enough time to shower and prepare an evening meal by 6:00pm. This is a matter of public moral and national spirit and should it mean leaving work at 3:30pm then so be it. This, although an attractive proposal, should be taken seriously as it verges on Human Rights!

Step 4 –Laundry Day

One working day every fortnight should be set aside for laundry. It is not right that this tedious (but necessary) occupation should take up any of a person’s free time. This should be paid for by the employer as a clean and neat employee is a good employee.

Such an argument is at this moment being prepared for a Food Shopping Day, though the point is essentially the same!

With the above four simple steps a working person’s (such as myself) life could be transformed. It is only cruelty and corporate greed that prevent these points from being adopted; karma alone dictates that we should soon see a change!

I think we should indeed be allowed to leave work at 3.30pm, it would solve my hatred of work considering I start at 2pm.

As you can probably tell: a) I wish it was still Xmas and b) a hate wasting my free time doing laundry!

Anyone got any ideas on how we can actually make this come true? I’ll donate all my Triond revenue to you if you manage it!! hehe!
