The Secret to Getting What You Want in Life
Have you ever wondered why you are always down in luck or at the wrong place at the wrong time? There is a secret to avoiding all that…
Throughout human history, across all cultures, we have always believed in luck. A look at the lottery counters near your home says it all. But why do most people feel unlucky most of the time? Why do poor people spend a higher percentage of their earnings to bet on lottery every month?
If you choose to believe me, there is no such thing as luck. What we deem as luck is just a phenomenon of nature that is directed by more than one source of energy. Humans are only a tiny speck on earth, which in turn is only an unoticeable pinch of dust relative to the whole universe. And yet, little amounts of energy, no matter how small, can still tip the balance of the universe, little by little.
This energy we are talking about is generated by our emotions. Desire, fear, greed, love, or anything you can name that moves us to reach for something more. To be ‘lucky’, it entails a constant stream of positive emotions, and this can only be achieved if we geniunely think positively for continuous periods of time.
Why do I say that? For example, when you prepare for an interview. You hope that you will be lucky that the interviewers like you. If before the interview, you had a self affirmation that ‘The interviewers like me very much’, your body will generate terestarone, giving you the ‘feel good’ effect, or some call the ‘natural high’. As this runs through our body, our feeling that success is near becomes heightened. We become more alert, our pupils expand, our posture straightens, our faces brings a natural smile. Overall, you have unknowlingly become more likeable by others, and naturally, you will be more likely to pass the interview because the interviewers are drawn to your positivity.
On the contrary, if you keep worrying about how the interviewers will be stern and hostile, you are sending the signal to your body to protect yourself from harm. Instead of ‘feel good’ hormones, defensive hormones will flow through your body. You tend to slouch, your eyes droop, your footsteps get heavier and your tone of voice starts to tremble. These are the signs of a low confidence person, and of course you will not get past the interview.
But one must note. Self affirmation will only work if the sentences are in PRESENT TENSE, not future tense. A good example of a self affirmation sentence will be ‘I AM rich and likeable’. Whereas an ineffective self affirmation will be ‘I will be rich and likeable’. See the difference?
It might not work the first few times you try it. But keep on doing it. When the positive signals you send to the universe piles up, and you make it your second nature, you will be glad you started. At least it has worked reasonably well for me. I used to think I was born an unlucky person, and that I could not change it. But after I realised the power of visualisation and affirmation, my unlucky streak stopped. And I have been quite contented with my ‘luck’ ever since.
It’s time you try. I will discuss more about visualisation in my next article.
