Things Do to When You’re Bored, or Waiting in a Seat or Something

by The Denied One in Advice, September 13, 2009

You got trapped into waiting to be seen by the worker in a pharmacy/hospital/store. If not a store, you’re bored at home. After reading this, NEVER AGAIN.

1 – If you’re with another person, play gestual/verbal games. In the gestual type, you have many finger games: thumb wrestling, stone-paper-scissors, etc. If you’re into a less-motioned game, you can play alphabet-like games, in which each person says something starting with a specific letter. Example, if you chose countries and it’s A, one by one people say: Albania, Australia… And so on.

2 – If you have your phone, text or phone some friend. If the environment is silence and respectful (the hospital, for example), texting should be more appropriate. Tell the person exactly what’s going on (not that you are full with work) and that you remembered him/her.

3 – Play music in your head. Although this may sound paranoic or psycho, it helps time go by. Our brain is a music player that plays in its very own format (and if you hear the music, it converts it faster to its “format” than any convertor). Imagine exactly the voices and sounds. Normally you can only do its if you’re quite focused, and it’ll be hard to do this and other thing at the same time. You can also sing lowly if the situation is valid.

4 – Think. Write poems in your mind, take notes in your mind, use it. (For example, a good thought would be thinking about something to bring and regret not thinking about it before…)

5 – Get up and take a walk. If you see that you’ll have to wait too long on a seat, go to a drink’s machine, a café or something that may be around. If you don’t feel like eating or drinking, siply walk around the building. If the waiting will be exceptionally long, leave the building and come back later.

6 (Useless if you’re already bored, key if before being bored) – Prevention. Prepare things to take (also be wary and up to news, to know whenever a long waiting is coming. Music readers, mobile phones, electronical devices (remember to pay attention to their batteries level, not to have nasty surprises), books, another person or even lots of people, etc.

Good tips, if you carry a pad and pencil with you, you can also work on your article for Triond.

I usually always have my calendar/diary, which allow me to check future appointment, write myself reminder, and take notes for a new article. When I am unprepared, l look around for something to read, if I am in a store, I shelf shop. Its like window shopping, I walk around and just look.( unless I see a really good deal ) of course.
    Great Article
