Think Before You Act

Imagine the other person has a gun.

Your Fault

Imagine a big dangerous looking guy, coming right at you with this
hostile look on his face.  As he reaches in arm’s length he makes
a move as if he’s going to hit you, and you just happen to have a
Glock, so pull it and fire.

And Bruto, lying on the ground keeps saying; “I didn’t know you
had a gun.”

Many times in life someone behaves in a certain way that normal
people will interpret in what can only be called the logical conclusion.

No one forced Bruto to approach. And you, who reacts in a way that
Bruto is too stupid to imagine (pulling your ‘gun’) are merely following
trhough the natural consequences of his act.

So Cathy insults her mother, and her mother cuts her off. Gee…you
mean Cathy never imagined that if she said those things to her mother
her mother would react that way?

So Dave does what he pleases and then is stunned that he’s all alone.
Gee, you mean never in all the permutations of his actions did he
consider that no one was going to put up with it?

Intelligence means understanding that the other person might ‘pull their
gun.’

The ‘gun’ could be breaking an engagement, disowning a child, moving
away, quitting or firing, hanging up the phone….whatever in the
circumstances a normal person would assume might happen.

Too many people are like Cathy. So locked into her own self that she
doesn’t realise if she does that, her relationship with her mother
would end.

That everyone can see the likely results and assume that Cathy meant
to end her relationship with her mother only adds to Cathy’s stupidity.

Now that she’s cut off, she can whine and cry, but it’s too late. It’s
over.

Just as Dave can sit in a bar and bewail his fate to the bartender,
and everyone in earshot will say; “But it’s logical that if you acted
like that your wife would leave you?” seems to be ‘new’ to him.

If Cathy intended to end her relationship with her mother, if Dave
wanted to end his marriage, and if Bruto wanted to go to the Emergency
room or morgue, then their actions would be perfectly understandable.

But that’s not what they expected, is it?

In life, all you can do, is try not to be Bruto. Think before you act
and appreciate the logical conclusions.

People say and do the worst things, and then claim; “I never knew if I did that….you would…”
