Time is Gold: Four Ways to be Punctual

It’s hell to have to wait for someone.

1. Prioritize!

Make a list of your to-dos, putting the most important on the top of the list. I f you think you won’t be able to accomplish all, just do what you can, but start at the top. You’ve atleast accomplished the most important.

2. Say no

Don’t go trying to please everyone and agreeing to every meeting and answering every phone call. If you’ve a jam packed-schedule don’t accept an un-expected invite. Reschedule for another day instead.

3. Pace yourself

Just like drinking, you don’t rush everything all at once. If you have a (AM call time, you don’t wake up 30 minutes before.  Consider how much time you need to get ready. Allot time for travel and traffic, and pad up a few minutes for the little hasles that may come your way.

4. Wear a watch

Don’t rely on your cellphone or the time checks on the radio. Your watch is like your PA: It should tell you if it’s time to go, or if you can slack off a bit.

I like this! I have always believed in punctuality, but that’s typically a norm for men, where I can honestly say wopmen do not practice this. I am speaking from experience, having a mom, six sisters, 3 sister in laws, a wife and 2 daughters, I guess you can say I know LOL But not to get off the subject, this is all excellent advise. You’re so right, I don’t like being late and often find things always take longer than you think they will. Good advice.

Great tips. Isn’t it amazing how when you sleepily hit snooze on the alarm clock in the morning your brain is confidently telling you that of course you can get up, get ready and be setting off for work in 15 minutes! It’s only when the alarm goes off again ten minutes later that you realise your brain was lying to you!

Nicely done! One thing to add … have a considerate attitude toward the person you’re planning on meeting. If you had an appointment with the Queen of England, you’d show up on time. Why? Because you make it a big priority. If you have an appointment with anyone else, you should make it the same big priority. (I know, I know, it doesn’t always work for me either. :-)

Good ideas. I’ve always had a hard time with punctuality. I hate being late, and yet I’m always rushing around at the last minute. One thing that has helped me is to be realistic about how long things take – you have to find a parking spot, walk into the building, take off your coat, get your coffee…that can easily add up to at least 10 minutes. Another tip I learned from taking a time management class (yes, I have tried!) is that if you are not 5 minutes early for a meeting, then you are late.
I was born right on my mom’s due date, but I’ve been late for everything since then.

well-chosen topic, cutest princess! i have always been an advocate of time consciousness: giving time the value it deserves. while our life is our greatest stewardship, its measure is time. it means that when you see people wasting their time, you are in effect seeing people wasting their life.

    great reminder!
