Tips to Cure Winter Boredom

Winter can be a drag. This is a list of activities that will help keep you active and happy.

Winter can be a rough season.  The days are short, the nights are long, and the weather can be downright nasty in many areas.  It’s easy to see how one can become bored and possibly depressed during those long winter nights.  Below is a list of suggestions to keep you busy and happy during these cold, dark months.

Art Night

This doesn’t have to be anything grandiose, no one’s expecting you to turn your living room ceiling into the Sistine Chapel.  Simply get some basic supplies, maybe construction paper, poster board, or a sketch pad and some crayons, markers, colored pencils or watercolors.  Spend an evening drawing and painting whatever you feel like.  Don’t worry if you’re not any good at it, this is just for fun.  And, hey, if you’re good at it then maybe you can create some inexpensive artwork to help decorate your home, or even make gifts for the holiday season.

Read a Book

I crave bad weather so I can curl up with a good book and a glass of wine.  With so many books on so many subjects both in fiction and non-fiction, it’s nearly impossible not to find one you’ll enjoy.  It’s a nice, quiet activity that let’s your mind roam and invent.

Stop By The Gym On The Way Home.

One reason people get so bored during winner is inactivity.  Our bodies need to move and experience resistance.  Stop by the gym on the way home and do a quick work out.  Push yourself hard for 30 minutes to an hour.  This will get your heart rate up and keep your spirits up as well.

Netflix

I can’t say enough good things about Netflix.  I currently pay less than $18 a month for limitless entertainment.  I regularly get entire seasons of television shows and use the long winter nights to catch up on them.  I completed two seasons of Farscape last winter and will do the other two this winter.  I also watch countless movies this way as well.  Weekends can be long when it’s 30 degrees and below outside.

Stumbleupon

I only recently discovered StumbleUpon, mostly through my experience with Triond.  I started “stumbling”  a week ago and I can promise you, it’s addictive.  It’s also a great way to explore the internet.  I’ve seen more weird, wacky, and wonderful things in the past week using stumbleUpon than I ever have before.
