Tips to Cure Winter Boredom
Winter can be a drag. This is a list of activities that will help keep you active and happy.
Yoga
Now is a great time to begin yoga. Pop in a dvd from your local department store and start stretching. It’s cold outside but it’s nice and toasty in your home, a good environment for stretching muscles. Yoga can be gentle and relaxing or it can be quite a work out. Find what’s right for you and go for it.
Write
Your stuck indoors anyway, might as well start that book, play, screenplay, journal, or memoir. You have multiple hours indoors, so why not? Spend a half hour or an hour a night putting words on paper. You have nothing to lose.
Try a New Recipe
Pull a recipe off the internet, grab the groceries on your next trip to the store and have at it. It may take a little longer to get used to the ingredients and measurements but it’s winter, you’ve got the time. At the end you’ll have a brand new meal you’ve never tried before. What’s a better pick up than that. If it’s a disaster, write about it or draw it!
Romantic Time
Hey, we both know what I’m talking about here. What’s better than tv? You guessed it. And, usually, there’s still time for tv.
Watch TV
This is a pass-time that gets a lot of flack. Television has a lot to offer, at least in short doses. If you hate sitcoms, go to Discovery or The History Channel. Hate those? How about Sci-Fi or Comedy Central? Hate everything? Try Hulu.com and see shows from around the world, for free!
Throw A Dinner Party
Have some friends over for food and a nice bottle of wine. It’s low key, keeps you busy and is it’s a great time! We’ve had dinner parties followed by a movie screening. We’ve had dinner and massage parties (one of our friends was in massage school and needed and the practice). It’s a fabulous way to be social and not spend too much money.
If you have any other suggestions, feel free to leave them in the comments. I’m always looking for new ways to keep busy in cold weather!
