Want Change? Be Ready for Risk

In the year 1912 Henry Ford was so in love with his Model T car, that he refused to see the sun setting on the model, he even had his production designer sacked for suggesting they change the Model, to make it look more towards the future, and all this took place during the popularity of the Model T.

Imagine the anguish when Ford saw a new version of the Model T, redesigned by his production designer William Knudsen, he was so devastated that he knew not what to do , but used his bare hands to tear off the left side of the car and caused so much damage that the car was useless. Out of comparative necessity Knudsen, who had already left for General Motors came back to design the Model A, but his heart was not in the design and it clearly showed.

Let’s look at another aspect where many people are amused, the area of sports. How many coaches will dare change a winning team, but the question is for how long will a winning team keep winning, and how soon can the coach effect changes within the team?. That was the case with Ford for he felt that the Model T was to be the only car in the world and must not be changed for any reason. But how wrong he was! Sometimes in order to make changes we have to forfeit something that is very dare to us.

Change, sometime  back intercontinental travel was like a dream, but not now. Within a few hours you can get from Africa to South America, yes the introduction of the Jet has made long distance travel a matter of hours, wait a minute now you can sit in the comfort of your home and watch the war in Iraq and  the grand slam in Australia, without leaving your sitting room, yes that is the power of technology. What about the laptop on your bed! years back we had super computers that occupied an entire room, now all the features of the supercomputer are what we call micro chips, tiny bits that now fits perfectly into your laptop and you carry them about. What about you and me, the sole business man/woman that sits behind the computer daily creating and writing content and getting paid for doing such, not wanting to work for any one, even the telephone company that will serve your needs is a big problem as you sit and add up the best rate for you to go on. Even the housewife now has a choice to make either to remain a housewife and depend on the man or join in bringing money to the household, a problem that was not there years back, change.

All these came about as a result of some people who wanted to effect a change in things around them, and the major factor was the risk they were willing to take, risk that could cost them even there lives, but risk they were willing to take to make the dream come true. Now what is that change you’ve always wanted to make in your business, home, church and surroundings? Now is the time to take that risk and do it. Move away from your comfort zone and try, try, try and try again till you hit it, as one famous inventor said, ‘every error pointed me to the way that I am not wrong only not doing the right thing yet.’

Risk is always the reason why many fail to act, but in the long run risk is nothing compared to the outcome of what you will attain. Risk it.
