We All Need a Time Out

Time out is not only for little things, sometimes we all need a time out, and we are not talking about a vacation!

Originally time out were designed as a form of discipline, to give a child a minute or ten, to think about their actions. We try to explain to them what they did wrong, and make them understand the consequences of their actions.

Have you ever thought that perhaps adults need a time out? A time out not a vacation a few moments when they have gone on a screaming rampage and perhaps said some hurt words or did something evil to someone. Well if you have or know someone who has, then they need a time out. If it is minor, the person should be sent to his office, something a bit more disturbing, send the individual home with no pay, with the understand that the behavior is unacceptable, and next time he will be dismissed. I am sure he will learn to control himself better.

When it involves a relationship with two adults, sometimes letting the other cool of by taking a bath or going to bed is better than confronting the problem when you are both very upset and “fired up”. If in the middle of a heated discussion and your feeling overwhelmed, let the other person know that you need a time out, and just go sit in your favorite chair and think the situation through.

There is never a reason for violence, or to verbal abuse someone; if a situation is causing you undue stress, step a way for a while. It is after stepping away that you can get your thought together and sit down and discuss the problem giving one another room and respect is what it is all about.
