What to Do If You Get Laid Off in Today’s Economy
What is the first thing we must do if we lose our jobs?
Ok, so you’ve been laid off after giving your time, blood, sweat and tears to your company for years. There’s fear that overcomes you, isn’t there? Well remember, in today’s economy, you are not alone. In fact, if you go to a neighborhood store or even a bowling alley, you’ll have the opportunity to speak with people and see that a majority have recently lost their jobs, yet they’re not putting the proverbial gun in their mouths.
While people are worried, they now have the opportunity to start fresh. Yes, that may be a difficult task for many depending upon funds and age, but there is still opportunity. However, as trying as the moment may be, what first needs to happen is this, you must and I repeat, you must keep your cool. Looking for jobs is bad enough, but interviewing with attitudes would only make it harder. Decide where you want to be, plan the trip to get there, choose the road and be on your way. You might not get the fulltime job you want at the moment, but I believe that one thing does always lead to another and when one door closes another one opens up.
Be adventurous, as you may find a job that you never thought would suit you or your lifestyle, but there is something to be said for happiness. So you may have lost a job in the financial industry, but then maybe it’s time to start your writing career or even open up your own business.
Good luck to you all, as this can happen to anyone. Keep your family with you. Keep your head high and always looking forward. Lastly, keep a smile on your face, for with positive attitude, positive things will happen.

Good one. The worst thing to do is sit home and worry about it and don’t rely on the help wanted ads to heavily either.

In the area I’m at,there isn’t many jobs to be found and they aren’t full time.I feel lucky to have a part time job yet, though it isn’t the best job in the world. And it does give me time to write.

Good points. Finn Casperson who was CEO of Beneficial in Peapack, NJ and then sold the company to HSBC and was filthy rich at one point did put a gun to his head over Labor Day and pulled the trigger due to his financial losses.
