When You’re Feeling Down, Boost Yourself Up!
Sick of your day-to-day life? Finding it hard to come up with the motivation to complete daily tasks? Feeling down in the dumps, discouraged, or like you want to throw your phone away and move to a deserted island? You aren’t alone; give this article a read.
At times, we all think we have it pretty good. At other times, we’re convinced that our life is terrible. Whatever the case may be, every single one of us experiences hardships in life; they aren’t always big, but they aren’t always small, either.
So, this morning, feeling both physically and mentally worn out, I took a seat at my computer. I hopped on Facebook, noticing the lack of activity at 10am on a Sunday morning. I thought to myself, “Those lucky people, I bet they’re all still sleeping”, of course, that thought made me even grumpier; I had been up since 7am out in the freezing cold and hadn’t a day off in nearly 3 weeks. To make matters worse, my finances were looking very bad and I couldn’t help but wonder why I worked so hard for such a small amount of money.
Before I go any further, let me stop here and say that I’m an extremely motivated individual. I’m an athlete working toward the 2016 Olympics and plan to make it at all costs; I don’t care what I have to do, I just want to be there. I don’t consider myself lazy, nor do I think that I’m wimpy. I’m warm natured, I love summer, and yet every winter I spend a minimum of 8 hours outside in the bitter temperatures. Most of the time, I know it’s worth it and keep the big picture in mind. However, on mornings like these, keeping the big picture in mind becomes difficult.
Unfortunately, no matter how hard we’re willing to work, we still have basic needs. We get hungry, thirsty, and need rest. Not only that, we need social interaction, fun, and variety to keep us feeling our best. Sadly, many of us work so hard at our jobs, hobbies, or other areas that we forget that we need to take care of ourselves. Ironically, the best way to make sure that the rest of the stuff gets taken care of is to ensure that we’re at our very best, yet, we tend to forget such an important fact.
Furthermore, it can be helpful to remember that all stress, financial problems, workloads, and overall exasperation is relative. Sure, you might be financially better off than the person next door; but your level of workload and stress is relative. Of course, it is important to remind ourselves all of the positive things happening in our life. Whenever I’m feeling really low, I remind myself that I’m very fortunate to be presented with the opportunities I have. While one of us may be complaining about our work hours, someone is out there desperately searching for a job. Get the point?
So, the next time you’re feeling like taking off to a deserted island, keep the following in mind:
