Why Manners are Important
Why we should keep up those pleases and thank yous.
In today’s society, manners aren’t to be found very often, people are too full of their own importance. So if nobody says thank you to us, why should we say thank you to them?
Well to begin with we are showing that we are rising above anything that they may say. We are showing the world that we appreciate other people’s help and we like it. We cannot survive in solitude, it’s not how the human race was designed to live. We are meant to stick together, but it is also a trait of the human nature to feel competitive towards others.
You have got to admit that when you’re having a really bad day, and someone says thank you for holding open a door it makes your day just that little bit better. Hearing someone, even someone you have never met before, appreciating your kindness can help restore your faith in the human race.
If we lived in a world with no manners, it would be a very sad world. Nobody would feel that little lifting in their heart when they are thanked for their troubles, or hear a gracious sorry when knocked, instead of left with a feeling of hatred from the knocker!
Everyday on the news we hear stories of teenagers and young adults shooting, stabbing and viciously attacking each other, you can feel a quiet and private satisfaction of knowing that not every teen is like that when you pass them a book in a book store etc.
When I invited one of my best friends Cecily over to my house last weekend, I highly appreciated the fact that she sent me a thank you card, which I could place on my kitchen dresser. I knew because of this that she had enjoyed herself and it made me much more likely to invite her over again.
However, when I invited another girl to my house who I shall not mention, I received no thank you, and she demanded some items of food, taking some home with her, and attempting to invite herself to my house again. This obvious lack of manners makes me much less inclined to have her over again, and I certainly shall avoid it at all costs!
So what we can establish from this brief article is that manners make us feel appreciated and our world a happier place! So next time you’re out and about don’t forget your pleases and thank yous, and just try to make someone else’s day that little bit better.
