Tips on keeping Healthy by walking.

 

It’s important that we all take regular exercise no matter what the age. But most important, is that older people make the extra effort. Here are some of the reasons why it’s important that we do, and the kind of exercise to take that will make us healthier.

 Try to use the stairs rather then the lift.

 Try to get out at Lunchtime for some fresh air

 Get of at the Bus stop one stop earlier

Park a little further away from where you are going

 How about a regular walk with a friend?

 Make a note of your progress – see how much easier you now are climbing stairs

Find new places for you to walk

Walking is free and can be done anywhere at any time.

You can build walking into everyday life by…

Taking your dog for a walk

Walking the Children to and from the School.

Walking to collect your papers or letters.

Taking your Family out for a stroll, a chance to switch off and socialise.

Walking will help you see more of your surroundings. You will notice more, and discover new places.

Walking doesn’t hurt you especially if you make sure you are wearing the proper shoes.

Walking helps the environment …when you walk instead of taking the car.

Walking will make you feel good because it gives you more energy… will improve your mood …increases confidence and stamina.

Walking will improve your Physical Health. Will help you reduce the risk of …

  • Heart disease
  • A stroke
  • Becoming over weight
  • High Blood pressure
  • Certain cancers particularly bowel cancer.
  • Diabetes
  • Osteoporosis
  • Arthritis

It can help you to recover from all these conditions, or help in their management.
