Yes, Lies Hurt

Everyone tells what they think is a “little white lie” every now and then. However, these can hurt far more than the truth.

What makes a person lie and why?  Here are just a few reasons a person will lie to another.  But here are also the reasons a person should not lie.

First of all a lot of people will lie to make the other person feel better.  If someone asks how they look in something and they actually look hideous, a person may lie to them to keep from hurting their feelings.  The thing is if you are their friend and you let them go out looking bad and they are made fun of, they are going to blame you for not telling them.  So just tell them in a polite and easy way that the outfit they have on is not too flattering on them.

Second a person will lie to their spouse for numerous reasons.  Either they have spent too much money.  They have done something wrong (had an affair, gambled away a lot of money etc), or they think lying is just for the best.  Well guess what, lying is never ever for the best.  Even if it is an affair, tell your spouse before someone else does.  Tell them about the money being gambled away before they go and try to purchase something.  Be completely honest with them.

Third a person will usually lie to keep to a co-worker about the work they have done.  Either they will tell them it is awful when it is wonderful, or they will tell them it is wonderful when it stinks.  They do the first so they can actually steal their ideas and the later because they want to make the person look foolish so the boss will like their own work.  Doing this will finally catch up with a person and could end up in them getting fired.

Fourth a person will lie about a person’s new house and the way it is decorated.  Again, this is to keep from hurting someone’s feelings.  However, it is never right to lie to someone about that.  They are asking you because they want your honest opinion not just to hear you say it is beautiful.  Tell them the truth but then tell them what you do like about it.

Fifth everyone wants to tell “little white lies” on their taxes.  Now here is the one where a lie can actually get you put in jail.  So always tell the truth on those taxes.  Let’s put it this way, would 3 to 5 be worth saving $100?  I really do not think so.  However, that is completely up to you.

So as you can see even the “little white lies” that people think never hurts anyone, can actually hurt a person a whole lot more than the truth.  So just be honest from the beginning.
