You are Good Enough

Are you a perfectionist that is always striving to achieve the unattainable? Here is some advice on how to give yourself a break.

You are special.  Stop comparing yourself to everyone around you.  It is natural for us as humans to compare yourself and your abilities and achievements to those of the peole around you.  You are good enough as you are.  There is no need to try and become someone else.  You are unique and special.

Repeat the following mantra. ‘I am happy to be me.’  Say it, sing it, shout it.  Your sense of inner strength and self belief will increase and you will slowly begin to let go the need to compete.

Learn to recognise the difference between reaching important goals and ruining your life by pushing yourself beyond your limits.  Yes, you should aim high and strive to reach your goals, but not to the extent that your health, relationships and confidence suffer.

Tune in to your feelings and learn to know when to stop.  When you are feeling stressed and snowed under, stop and ask yourself, ‘Is this really important?’.  If you aren’t feeling great, does it really matter if your house isn’t spotless?  If you’re not looking your best, does it have to spoil your whole day?

Take a reality check.  Why put your life on hold until you are the right weight?  have the right boyfriend?  the perfect job?  Perhaps waiting to be perfect is a way to stop having to take that next important step.

Stop wasting time.  Life is shorter than we think and we need to get on with the business of living.  Perfectionists set unrealistic goals and are therefore bound to fail.  If you maintain impossible standards throughout your ife, you will have wasted your precious gift.

Let go of the need to control everything.  It will be such a relief to put down all of those burdens.  You are not indispensable.  The world will not stop spinning if you sit down and put your feet up.  Feeling and looking in control can become an obsessive desire, with us often using the appearance of being in control to hide vulnerability and hurt.  You can let go mentally and physically.  Start off in small ways and it will get easier, and so will your life.

Allow yourself to be yourself.  Don’t waste your life trying to be superwoman or some other mythical creature who is more beautiful, more talented, more deserving than you.  Accept the real you – you are fabulous, talented and truly amazing!

Have fun.  All this competition entering has left us worrying about everything from the size of our bums to the quality of our work.  Imagine you are giving advice to a friend.  Accept you for you.

You are good enough!!
