You’re the Inspiration

by Zoey Raineri in Advice, October 7, 2008

How little, everyday things and places inspire us.

I watch the people that are being interviewed on the telly often and I wonder “Why is it that no one has ever asked what inspires me”?  I mean, we usually hear the atypical responses… My mum, my dad, my husband or wife or some celebrity or my pet goat.  But here, this is what inspires me since none of you ever seem to want to ask.  And the answer, may surprisingly shock you.

Life.

That’s right!  Life inspires me.  Life means joy and laughter and happiness and beginnings and death; which brings tears and srorrow and anger which later begets compassion and ends and new beginnings that later give birth to hope and tenderness and joy once more.  How people interact with each other, cool nights in early spring, dancing barefoot upon the grass beneath the moonlight, social politics, the untimely death of a friend, banana nut bread and kittens and cute babies and even that smart ass kid living down the street. Northport, Alabama. Wilmington, Illinois.  Each one of these people, places, things, dreams, events, tragedies – They move me and leave their mark upon my soul in some way. Sometimes subtle, but sometimes not.  You get the picture.

So… The next time that you feel as if life has you by the cha-chas, take a walk.  Go outside of your regular neighborhood. Jump in a mud puddle and splash.  Buy a coloring book and a fresh box of crayolas.  Throw back your head in the middle of your work day and laugh at absolutely nothing.  Give away your favourite fifty dollar shirt to the homeless guy you see everyday on the corner.  You might feel a lot better.

Only when you fail to see life for all of the possibilities will you ever be uninspired and know true misery.

Pet goat? LOL I can certainly appreciate your inspiration as that is what inspires a poet, but the people you hear on television, they’re not even real. Excellent advice my friend, continue to be inspired. Michael
