Happy Friday! To All Those Grieving, Yet Still Survivors!

Today just may be the best day of your life. Today’s Daily Two Cents centers around giving your best shot. No need to sugarcoat things, you having nothing to lose and everything to gain!

Let go of the fear and what we may not be able to do or wasting our time worrying about what people think if we try something new. As the old saying goes, ‘those that mind don’t really matter’ in the big picture! Getting to a certain destination will always be filled with obstacles included with trying and sometimes failing along the way. The more you try, the closer you get to your destination regardless of the roadblocks! Never giving up will take you beyond the roadblocks!

Remember belief without faith is no belief at all! Cast away your fears and reach out for hope! Life is way too short to be afraid. Everything that you seek is already yours- you have nothing to lose! When you feel as if you’ve tried everything and run out of ideas- keep trying again!

- Mankine

“If you have nothing to lose, you can try everything…. You have nothing to lose, so get to work.” -Yiddish Proverb

“Every accomplishment starts with the decision to try.” -Unknown

“You may be disappointed if you fail, but you are doomed if you don’t try.” -Beverly Sills

“If at first you do succeed, try something harder.” -Proverb

“Supposing you have tried and failed again and again. You may have a fresh start any moment you choose, for this thing that we call “Failure” is not the falling down, but the staying down.” -Mary Pickford

“Most of the important things in the world have been accomplished by people who have kept on trying when there seemed to be no hope at all.” -Dale Carnegie

“Doing your best means never stop trying.” -Unknown

“The successful man will profit from his mistakes and try again in a different way.” -Dale Carnegie

"Black Gotham" explores the experiences of African-Americans who lived free in the north, while the slavery debate raged in the south.

Photo: Museum of African American History Prominent black businessman George Downing and other members of New York’s black elite tried to establish themselves as full Americans, not merely as ‘Africans.’

While many Americans are familiar with black slavery in the South during the 19th Century and its role in igniting the nation’s great Civil War, less attention has been paid to the black experience in northern cities such as New York, where so-called “freedmen” lived.

Now, a new book, “Black Gotham,” by University of Maryland Professor Carla Peterson, shines a light on their remarkable stories.

Much of the history of black 19th-Century New York has been lost, in part because it was eclipsed in the popular imagination by the saga of southern slavery. Additionally, mostly-white academic historians minimized the contributions of African-Americans. And no comprehensive archive of black life existed until the 20th Century, when the Schomburg Center for Research in Black Culture was established.

Peterson’s ancestors were distinguished members of the city’s black elite and she felt theirs was a powerful story that needed to be told. She spent 11 years researching and writing her book.

John T. Consoli’Black Gotham’ author Carla Peterson

“Writing this book was very important to me,” says Peterson. “It was a journey of hard work, but also of love and passion.”

Led by free blacks such as clergyman Alexander Crummell, newspaper editor Charles Ray and businessman George Downing, members of New York’s black elite tried to establish themselves as full Americans, not merely as “Africans” or “coloreds” as black slaves had once been called and called themselves.

Like members of outsider groups before and since, this African-American elite considered education to be the key to full citizenship. They also embraced values of character and responsibility.

“A good, upright moral citizen, valuing temperance, a Protestant ethic of hard work, sobriety and all those kinds of inner values. Respectability then is the outward manifestation of character,” says Peterson. “It’s in your appearance, how you dress, how you comport yourself, especially when you’re out on the streets of New York, and especially with whites. No loud, boisterous behavior but being utterly respectable and respectful.”

‘Black Gotham’ explores the history and contributions of New York’s black elite during the 19th Century.

That didn’t mean the status quo went unchallenged. Peterson’s book describes salon-style meetings in the back of James McCune Smith’s pharmacy. Smith, who was one of antebellum New York’s most important black leaders, hosted lively debates about voting rights for blacks and the abolition of slavery.

Alliances with whites were often forged. And like white New Yorkers, many in “Black Gotham” also wanted to be rich – but success could be fleeting.

“You see black New Yorkers make tremendous gains and then lose. Gains in terms of entrepreneurship, finding a trade, finding a profession, setting down roots, buying property, and feeling they were at last becoming a genuine part of city life. They would refer to ‘color-phobia’ as ‘fast disappearing in our city.’ But then there would be a loss.”

Racial violence was also an issue. Peterson cites a riot in 1834, which began in a chapel where both black and white choirs were scheduled to rehearse at the same time.

“And the white choir went nuts. It was only a pretext, but a race riot broke out, and a lot of black property was damaged. Saint Philip’s Episcopal Church, which was the church of my family, was desecrated.”

The Draft Riots of July 1863, during the height of the Civil War, were an especially low point in the history of black New York. When President Abraham Lincoln instituted a military draft, many immigrants, especially the Irish, thought they were being asked to fight and perhaps to die in a war being waged for the benefit of blacks. Angry mobs set out to destroy the dwellings and businesses of the city’s prosperous African-Americans.

But there was also some goodwill between the races. Peterson’s great grandfather owned a pharmacy in a largely Irish neighborhood. He was known as a kind man who gave free medicine and clothes to the poor.

“So they came to see him as a pillar of the community. So at the time of the Draft Riots he was warned to leave. A group of white merchants in the area came to him and said ‘You’d better get out. Your pharmacy is going to be attacked.’ And he said, ‘As many men who are going to come and attack me, there will be as many who come to defend me.’ And that is exactly what happened. His Irish neighbors protected his pharmacy.”

Then as now, New York was an ethnic melting pot, and Peterson says many black New Yorkers saw themselves as citizens of the world. Her own ancestors had roots in England, Haiti, Jamaica, Venezuela, American Indian territory as well as Africa.

She points out that more than a century later, many American blacks still lack the educational and economic opportunities that the mainstream enjoys. But Peterson adds that she has been gratified to learn that many black groups are inspired by the struggles and incremental successes of 19th-Century “Black Gotham.”

Before deciding the authenticity of Indian recipes on the web, perhaps we should first talk about authenticity itself. In terms of cooking, what recipes are called authentic?

The internet has developed Indian, just like community. There was once a time when it was difficult to discover Native Indian formulas in other nations around the world. Now a days it has become more readily found Native Indian formulas online and make them anywhere on the planet. However, the concern that troubles many is how do they discover out that the formula they are looking at is an genuine Native Indian recipe? What atmosphere them is that each website is informing the same formula with different substances. Which one of them is authentic?

Before selecting the validity of Native Indian formulas on the web, perhaps we should first discuss validity itself. With regards to food preparation, what formulas are known as authentic?

To some professionals a genuine formula is the one that is provided just like the people ready it. To them it is very important to go by each and every component the same way as it is used at the position of beginning of that particular formula. So generally it is about how some meal or food is ready at its position of beginning. The genuine formula stringently follows the substances and method almost consistently.

Now if this is how we assess the validity of a formula, then it would become almost difficult to discover any genuine Native Indian formulas. Indian is globe’s second most populated nation after the Far East. It has a population of 1.13 Million individuals. These individuals fit in with different societies, belief systems, cultures and speak different languages. Each Native Indian lifestyle gets intensely from other Native Indian societies and countries they are living with. They reveal a typical nation, many typical traditions, cultures, and they also reveal their formulas with each other. Each social group contributes their own styles to what was supposed to be the unique genuine formula.

Some conventional Native Indian formulas are around for decades, and these formulas were shared between different parts of Indian. People of each location and social background included their own styles to that formula, increasing it into something more exotic. Eventually, it becomes difficult to find back a formula to the resource of its beginning and follow the conventional formula. Even if you succeed to discover out the unique resource of the formula, most likely you will discover it a lot different than how it is currently done in Indian.

I believe that a perfect genuine formula is the one that is somewhat closer to the unique but has included styles. In fact many styles that were included to these recipes by individuals of different societies and countries add much more value to the genuine formula. Today’s Native Indian formulas show the social variety of Indian. There are many ways to prepare each genuine Native Indian formula. The most typical of all formulas in Indian are prepared diversely in each location and each localized taste is unique and I don’t think there is any harm in recognizing the validity of these localized styles.

Atkinson centered his maintain on a evaluation analysis of the variety of phonemes discovered in about 500 present-day dialects. Phonemes are the most primary audio models — consonants, vowels and colors — that type the foundation semantic difference in all dialects. The number of phonemes used in normal dialects ranges commonly. Atkinson, who is a biologist and psycho therapist by exercising, discovered that the best stages of phoneme variety took place in dialects verbal in north western African-american. Furthermore, according to his precise analysis, the dimension the phoneme stock in a terminology tends to reduce with range from this hotspot.

To translate this discovering Atkinson invoked a similar from inhabitants genes. Scientists have noticed an similar impact, insofar as people inherited variety is discovered to reduce with range from African-american, where our types began. This is assigned to the so-called creator impact. As people transfered from there are and small categories ongoing to spread, each certainly came to signify an ever-shrinking portion of the complete inherited variety provide in the Africa inhabitants as a whole.

So does such a creator impact perform a in the same way important impact in the dispersal and difference of languages? Erina Cysouw regards Atkinson’s discovering as “artefactual.” Cysouw, whose work is financed by one of the Beginning Funds granted by the Western Research Authorities (ERC), brains a analysis team that research quantitative evaluation linguistics in LMU’s Staff of Languages and Literatures. He says he has no argument in concept to the use of techniques obtained from other professions to deal with concerns in linguistics, but that issues happen from their incorrect program.

For example, he discovers that if Atkinson’s strategy is applied to analyze other factors of terminology, such as the development of subordinate conditions or the use of the inactive feelings, the outcomes “do not factor in the same route.” Indeed, in their content in Technology, Cysouw and his coauthors Steven Moran (LMU) and Dan Dediu of the Max Planck Institution for Psycholinguistics in Nijmegen display that, with regards to the characteristics regarded, Atkinson’s strategy locations the website of source of terminology in southern African-american or the Caucasus or somewhere else entirely. As Cysouw details out, speakers have long desired to place gentle on the source of terminology by assessing styles of terminology submission. The issue is that such interactions can be dependably tracked only as far back as about 10,000 years before the provide.

Why Gasification Of Sewage Sludge Is Better Than Spreading It On Land.

On the topic of how to endure 2012, in one of his guides, specialist and writer Meat Geryl made a research of the best success locations in the world.

Mountains are a prospective place to be and thus an option to endure the cataclysm this year, but there are essential circumstances to take into account:
If you have chosen on going into the hills to live a disastrous occurrence like a polarshift, it is essential that you choose a hill that will stay constant. In case the hill should permeate the beach, the water, with its dangerous and unforeseen power, will brush you away without whim.
Should the hill increase, water will be of little dilemma to you; however, there are other problems to be aware of such as rockslides and a occurrence leading to huge, deeply piles of little stones given to slipping called “scree”.

In his book “How to endure 2012″ Meat Geryl creates and try to response a very difficult question: If a hill is going to switch, is it possible to estimate if it will increase or sink?
In The Direction of the Post, Lecturer Charles Hapgood creates some very exciting reviews concerning the topic of geological redistribution. According to him, it is indeed possible to determine the prospective motions of a hill. He informs us that, when the whole brown crust place of the world changes, diametric reverse details on the earth will be shifted toward the equator and others, toward the posts.
To appreciate this information you will need to have a look at a world. When you analyze a world carefully, you will discover that there is a little stick out along the line that symbolizes the equator. This stick out displays how demand on the posts, due to the revolving rate of the world, forces the Southern region and Southeast Hemispheres together. During a large complete switch, the place of the brown crust place relaxing over the equator must switch with everything else.
For this to happen there needs to be enough power to be able to force the firm brown crust place that sits within the places over the real stick out at the equator. The part of the brown crust place that gets encouraged over the equator will be required to expand, and the place of the brown crust place that gets shifted toward the posts will therefore go through demand.Which Continents are going to Shift with the activities in 2012?

It is essential to know in which route the global brown crust place is going to switch if you are to estimate what places will be influenced when the lithosphere starts to grow and reduce. Western countries, Japan and African-american are fixed together and, therefore consist of a much bigger where you live now than the The put together.
Due to the physical regulations of inertia and scrubbing, it is a pretty secure bet that the places with the least quantity of huge will be powered the furthest when the power of the complete switch is upon them. Therefore, because they have the least quantity of huge, the places of Northern The united states and Southern region The united states will be shifted the furthest away from their unique destinations during the cataclysm. This causes consider that the threats will be on frequent higher in the The than they will be on the European-African-Asian place. But there are many more aspects to take into consideration. Think about all these landmasses switch and wiping out atomic vegetation for example. That delivers another extra essential factor in the mix and to put in your computations where (not) to be! But even frequent locations could mean problems because of the large damage. There will not be one building status after the assault of such going area has approved.

Visit our success store to discover out more about this and other relevant phenomenons and to obtain Geryl’s guides. Finding a secure place is essential and schooling yourself about this and relevant subjects will be important if you would like to endure what is upon us in 2012!

Image via Wikipedia

Oh, those complainers that constantly gear in on sometime to gripe about years after it happen. Seems, to be the problem wrong with the word forgiveness. Now people crying foul because singer Chris Brown, won an award and performed, at the Grammy. Oh, he completed all the court requirements requested of him. Plus, he was complimented on doing all that they requested, by the court.

Except that small minority thinks he shouldn’t have the opportunity to work. As, many knows this is the same vocal group that cries constantly about Michael Vick being accepted back in the National Football League. And guess what? Just like Chris Brown,he served his time. Still, these vocal problem makers that can’t forgive seems bent on creating havoc.

Again, guess what? The same crime that Michael Vick was convicted upon is still going on to this very day. Yes, the dog fighting is still going on. And going strong. The problem seems to lie in the complainers doesn’t have a clue because those doing it isn’t famous. See , when you famous the complainers seeks that attention.

Notice, on the news that when lesser known people get spotlighted for dog abuse that you never see PETA crying foul. Same, with Chris Brown conflict with Rhianna. Who is on record stating she has o problem with Chris Brown continuing his career? So, why the complainers selecting Chris Brown? The same reasons they selected Michael Vick to pounce upon.

Many like to sweep the truth under the rug to not offend the complainers or critics. But, in truth the matter lies, within the color of both men. Who are both African American males? Yes, we can white wash it, if we like. But listen and research that the complainers are mainly whites. The same group that loves Robert Downey Jr. Who was his worst enemy. The same group that adores Lindsey Lohan stupidity that makes you wonder about her mindset.

Notice, in the case of Tiger Woods that it’s the main stream(white press) that cries about his personal failures. We live in a pick and select society about certain matters. Plus certain issues in the world. Which many black males comprehend still frighting many whites in ways that they don’t understand.

Get over the Chris Brown situation. It’s time to move on to another concern that worst off them his mistake. Oh, I forgot I guess all the white children just suddenly vanishing in the company of their parents isn’t worth the complaints.

Jean Reinhardt, better known as Django Reinhardt, was in Belgium in 1910. His family were gypsies, living around Paris. Django was always around musicians, inlcuding several family members. He started playing the violin, but received a banjo-guitar when he was 12. Within a few years he was earning an income playing music.

When he was 18, his home caught fire and he was badly burned. One leg was left paralyzed and his left hand was badly hurt, with the third and fourth fingers unusable. It would take him almost a year to walk again, and the two fingers never regained full function. Despite this setback, Django re-learned the guitar, doing all the solo work with only two fingers.

In 1934 the Quintette du Hot Club de France was formed with Stephane Grappelli on violin, as well as two more guitars and a bass player. This five piece ensemble would play together until the outbreak of World War II in Europe, when Django went to France to stay for the entirety of the war, while Stephane Grappelli spent the war in England. Django revived the quintet in France by replacing Grappelli with clarinetist Hubert Rostaing and a more traditional rhythm section. In 1946 Django reunited with Grappelli and the Quintette du Hot Club de France returned to its original five piece strings only arrangement. This final lineup of the quintet would continue to perform and record until 1948.

After the dissolution of the quintet, Django retired to France and spent the remainder of his days playing sporadically around France. He developed a reputation for being late for concerts or even skipping them entirely. He recorded what would be his final album in 1949, Djangology, with Stephane Grappelli and a three other musicians on bass, drums and piano. In his final years he would start playing an electric guitar, and his music started showing progression to a newer style.

In 1953, after performing in a Paris club, Django Reinhardt collapsed, the result of a brain hemorrhage. He died before doctors could arrive. He was 43. His music would go on to inspire countless musicians, among them Jeff Beck, Willie Nelson, Chet Atkins, and Tony Iommi.

A classic defense of cultural difference.

Differing attitudes toward various factors of human relationships cause communication problems. It possibly causes more miscommunications than in body positions and movements. The views and practices of cultural differences among various factors of human relationships for illustrative purposes depend upon the following factors. It mainly depends upon five major factors: time, space, odors, and frankness.

Time: In our culture (French) time must be planned and synchronized for better and ultimate use. Punctuality, meeting of the deadlines, business conduct smoothly within specific time limits and working all these with a complete schedule is always consider as the need of the hour. In some other cultures (especially in Middle East) people se the time in more and more relaxed way. They do not empathize on planning, meeting of schedules instead they reach the meeting late, and important people should be late in the meting as it shows their importance. In business conversations people in thee countries go slower pace, start the casual talk before getting into the main cause. So, there are two views of time and when both the persons from these regions meet then there ought to be mis- communication among them. So, views about time differ widely in some cultures stress punctuality and in some cultures it does not.

Space: Space is viewed differently by different cultures, inn some cultures people want to be far apart, in other cultures they want to be close. North Americans tend to prefer about two feet or so distance between themselves and those with whom they speak. In Arabian and South American cultures people stand close to each other and not following this practice is considered impolite and bad etiquette! North Americans view the personal space is the right and tend ton respect the right o the others. Thus they wait and waiting for their turn. People from some other countries jostle for the space in trains and other ques. In encounters among those people whose cultures have such vast differences towwards actions and spaces, and all these likely to be misrepresented.

Odors:

Some cultures view body odors as bad and some cultures view them as normal. Americans view the body odors as bad and work hard to neutralize body odors and cover them up. But in some Asian cultures body odors not be hidden but as something friends should experience. It is the “breathe the breath” and thus feel their presence by smelling. So, clearly en counters between these two cultures in any business communications lead to serious mis communication.

Frankness:

High context cultures are more frank and explicit than low context cultures. North Americans are frank, explicit in their relationships, blunt, and sharp in doing so. Asians tend to be far more reticent and implicit. Americans give more background information where as with Asians it is vice versa. The Asians may appear evasive, roundabout and indecisive to North Americans in a business communication but this is not true. North Americans may appear harsh n aggressive and impolite to Asians but this is also not true.

With telephonic customs in a business communications Chinese may tend to stop the phone abruptly after their purpose ahs been completed on the other hand Americans tend to move on to friendly talk and clearly prepare the listener for the end of the call.

A classic defense of cultural difference:

The classic “ugly American” was travelling far away land. He had been marked by a tendency to find and call attention to errors and flaws what he has been experienced – the foods, hotels and the customs in general. One day he came upon a ceremony at which a dead person is buried or cremated. And felt it there “What a stupid practice!” he uttered aloud with surprise, horror and joy to his native host. “Do your people actually think that the dead person will eat the food?”” At this point the host had taken all the rude expression intended to offend or hurt he could handle for one day. So he reacts verbally” Our dead will eat the food as soon as your dead smell the flowers you place on their graves”

Accommodation, connect with uncomfortable time. Yoon-sung knows exactly what everybody’s considering, and while Sae-hee does too, she is completely relaxed about it. Nerve fibres of precious metal, that lady. With her ex Young-ju seething before side of her, she justifications herself, still furious at him for ditching her for his perform. To rub sodium into that ended, Young-ju follows her out for an explanation…and gets known as mid-conversation.

An essential development has come in: the recognition of the hijacking car owner with the lifeless. It’s Jin-pyo, whose formal account details him as Bob Lee, a Korean-American entrepreneur in farming. Oh, is “agriculture” what we’re getting in touch with drugs deal now?

Yoon-sung cellphone calls Nana regularly, and isn’t able regularly. I really like that the quick his cellphone jewelry, he fun smugly to himself, ’cause this implies an ego setdown is to be able when it’s not her.

It’s Jin-pyo, getting in touch with to take Yoon-sung to process for not being on-task; he demands if it’s because of a young lady, and Yoon-sung says no. But the scarily all-knowing Jin-pyo has acquired everything (about the advancement of their research) from Shik-joong, who has caved under demand.

Jin-pyo wants to go community with the Seo Yong-hak/Hudson relationship instantly with it clip confirmation Yoon-sung got from the place, but Yoon-sung wants to delay. He claims that Seo dropping the presidential political election is not enough for him, that he wants to demonstrate him that all are equivalent before the law.

Yoon-sung’s saved a paternal ass-whooping (Dad is not satisfied with this “soft” answer) by the appearance of the community prosecutors. Yoon-sung and Shik-joong dangle again while his dad gets Young-ju and his associate.

When Jin-pyo actions aside to carry a plate of drinks for his visitors, the associate sneaks over to the wine glass on his workspace and easily raises a finger marks with some record.

While maintaining his overall tone satisfying, Young-ju feedback on Papa’s obvious several interests — guitar enjoying, motorbike driving — and demands if he by opportunity also prefers to photograph weapons. Sleek segue there. Jin-pyo gives a incorrect giggle and says, “I’ve never even taken a gun. I don’t like such terrible elements.”

Young-ju says Seo’s sniper had a bum leg and a gun, so they converted their look for to latest arrivals from overseas (guns are not marketed to the community, so you would have to be in police officers to have one, or traffick it in illegally).
