From a Monarchy to a Republic, from a poor minority with no say in legislations to an equal say in all, from a greatly deprived constitution to one that promoted equality and from one National Ideal to a completely different one. These are what make the French Revolution so Revolutionary.

       What’s your answer for the above question?

       Your answer would  be a big YES. Those who say NO, say NO not on account of  their  poor quality of life but because of their poor circle of friends and  neighbours. We always associate our happiness with the people who move around us and the company we keep.

       As an ex-Army man I would say that you like or dislike a place depending  upon the number of friends you have made and the intimacy you have developed with them.  Otherwise there is nothing much to talk about one station from another.  All are alike;  all places give you the same comfort or discomfort. It is the people around you who matter.  A place become s enjoyable and worth remembering if you have  had good  company of people, the ones who really cared for you and who showed genuine affection for you.

       In such a scenario if someone asks you if your mother country is a happy place to live in, you would scratch your head for an answer, wouldn’t you?  Your country is your permanent home;  you can’t keep changing it like your rented house? So, you have to like your country for what it is worth.

        And yet some people, on being exposed to this question, said, they are not very happy in their own country.  Guess who these people are?  Ones hailing from the US, Canada and Britain. Every citizen of these countries may not agree with the assessment  but that’s what the statistical information conveys to us.

        And  the happiest nationals belong to  Indonesia, India, Mexico, Brazil and Turkey. That’s news to me as an Indian but then I have no complaints against my country.  So I have to endorse the statistical information.

       On what criteria have these people based their verdict in these five countries? Is it due to their sound economy, rate of personal income tax and other taxes and their personal well being and quality of life?

     “On what then?” I asked a few knowledgeable Indians.  They simply shrugged.  Some mumbled, “I won’t like to take residence in Sri lanka or Maldives or Seychelles or New Zealand because I am happy in my good old India.”

        “Such vague answers won’t satisfy the readers of this article. Come, come out with some solid arguments,” I persisted.  

        Nothing.  Nobody gave me any solid reasons except repeating that they were very happy in India.

         Next, I turned to some Indian school children.  You know, children are very frank. They would call a spade a spade.

        “Why Babloo?”   Babloo is a first standard scholar in a nearby school from my colony.  He didn’t take more than two seconds to answer my question.  “Grandpa, I am happy because my  Mummy gives me good pocket money.  My teacher is good….”  Then he looked about to see if there were any eavesdroppers around.  Finding no one and yet viewing his information as a top secret material he said cupping his mouth, “My teacher gave me a toffee this morning because I said that eight plus seven is fifteen.”

        “Oh !”

        Mona, a sweet girl of IVth standard in the same school gave a different report. “India is a big country, grandpa.  Very big.  I spent my last summer vacation in New Delhi with my grand uncle. Everybody speaks Hindi there. 

        “All that’s fine, Mona.  Would you like to move to a country like UK or

South Africa? Or would you love to stay on in India?”.

        From the way Mona pondered over my  question, I guessed that she had no idea that other countries also existed in the world.  Then suddenly clicking her fingers she said, “Yes, I remember England.  I saw it in my Atlas.  Do people live there, grandpa?”

        I gave up my quest.

        Mrs. Julie Fernandez clinched the issue.  “Look here brother,” she showed her index finger at me. “Nobody should leave the country of their birth. Some did, mostly the teacher community , and they regretted deeply. The happiest place on Earth is your country of  birth. It matters little if it is Good or Bad.  Will you change your parents if you find some one  better or your children? We should stick to our own country.   OK?”

        “Amen,” I said and closed the issue.

Flowers opened whither away. Children grow slowly towards graveyard. Like it or not, what began will end one day or another. Smile or sob, the end is inevitable.

Think of the events happened since 2004 Tsunami. Haiti, Chile, New Zealand and Japan experienced what was unknown. The real storm is yet to begin. Let’s not be deceived by this tranquility.

The Ark should have a hard outer shell, with viscous liquid inside and a central sphere. The well protected spherical structure must enclose the dwelling rooms. It should be balanced in the liquid like the yellow yolk in egg’s white. If the craft is streamlined, able to float and dive it would be satisfactory.

Where to find money? If nations leave a portion of what is spent for nuclear arsenals intended to terminate mankind, a few may survive. Or, let’s just boast, “God created man in his own image” and drink the saline solution! What’s your opinion, my friends?
