35 year Old Russian Dies in A Self Burial Ritual That Went terribly Wrong

In Russia, the entire nation is still coming to terms with the bizarre death of a 35-year-old man who wanted to test his endurance and so asked his best friend to help him spend the night buried alive. The deceased had hoped that spending a night buried in a Mock grave would bring good fortunes. He was a sane computer programmer with a small child under his care.

The two men dug a hole together in the friend’s garden and put inside an improvised coffin with holes for air pipes. The man also took a blanket, a bottle of water and a mobile phone. The victim’s friend told investigators he covered the hole with planks and earth to a depth of around 20 centimetres and then went home. While at home, he even received a call from his friend confirming that he was fine.

It is believed that deep in the night, a storm that was probably not anticipated happened and blocked the air pipes leading to the make shift grave. The cell phone also failed to function and the poor man was found dead in the morning by his friend.

Many Russians are of late considering self burials very fashionable and some of them engage in this practice and never make it to see another day. Last summer a resident of the northern Vologda region died after he asked a friend to bury him in the forest in an attempt to lose his fear of death but ended up being  crushed by the earth to death.
