A.f.i Awards
The Australian film institute awards rewards the people associated with the production of film for the audiences world wide.
The A.F.I awards, (Australian film institute) was named at it’s introduction to be the second highest nation in line for the grossing at the ticket box. Our television series was so good it should have been a film. It won acclaim once again as it ran as a sequel to start with. The story that was on show last night in melbourne was A tale of two cities that being Melbourne and Sydney. This was a factual account which tells of the underworld of the involvement of crime on many levels especially drug running, murder and police corruption from the lower ranks right through to some higher levels of law who actually mixed with some criminals with money changing hands in paper bags distised as lunch bags. There was the great shoot out where they shot each other ddown from my own point of view they were doing the general public a public service and doing us a favour and cleaning up the streets. Yet, the law sees it as a crime and the killers needed to be punished if and when caught yet the families of the victims claimed compensation- what a joke. The most popular person to win an award I would rather not name for privacy reasons only to say he is immensely popular here in Oz. A rotund little round around the belly bald and a jovial character played the character of a main drug lord that controlled a town with locally grown weed. He was known to arrange hits on people in his employ who had become a threat to business. He later joined forces with another drug lord dealing with higher grades of drugs and it was here it grew nasty. There would be an amount of drug dealers who went missing suspected of being murdered and the new drug lord favoured riding the corpse of teeth for dental records. There was also the disappearance of the anti drugs campaigner who was a favourite in the town who ran in his public office.
There were other awards givven out to young up and coming actors and actresses, many were unknown well to me at least these were locally made films and documentaries. There was a film which had won accolades due to the pressure through press reports creating a lot of interest. The film was set in Indonesia where five journalists were executed by the military forces, although they the military didn’t admit it until recently by a guilt ridden General who issued a press release which had reached our shores in the last of days. The militart rhen tried to retract the statement and then follow that with restrictions on viewing the film itself.

A good article Pete on an event that showcases the national and international achievements of our local screen industry. I’m glad you mentioned the Underbelly TV Series ~ an Australian television masterpiece…exceeded my expectations. I saw a story on 60 minutes a while back about the 5 journalists who were murdered in Balibo, Indonesia…anyway Pete…very good
