A Future, Not a Past
The Juvenile Justice Fund has developed a program to help youngsters who are exploited and forced into the sex trade. But it’s up to the public to have zero tolerance for criminal adults who use our children. If you have suspicions of anyone report that person to the police or FBI.
I published an article sometime ago about the sex trade using underage girls in Atlanta and all over the state of Georgia. Now the Juvenile Justice Fund has started a campaign program called,”A Future” Not a Past” to address this exploitation of children. It attempts to show that these children exploited by adults are not criminals but victims of adult criminals. They hope to rescue the girls and help restore their lives. There has been no program in place to help these girls before. They have been branded as criminals and sent to juvenile detention or when the system is over crowded, they have been turned back on the street. It’s a shame to every one of us who sit at home safe in our own comfortable world.

The Governors Office of Family and Children’s Services have recently committed to develop a statewide system of care so that any girl who has been caught up in sex trafficking can be evaluated and treated for the trauma she has endured if necessary, the problem will be getting to these girls and bringing them in.
The media in recent months have raised awareness of the multitude of girls still being forced into prostitution. More than 300 in Atlanta alone every month. That is the known fact and nobody knows how many more are hidden away who haven’t been discovered. And we can be sure they haven’t all been discovered. Atlanta isn’t the only place these girls are to be found. The small towns have their share of exploited young girls. Everywhere an adult male is perverted enough and has money, a pimp will be found to oblige him with a child.
Every office of law enforcement in the country should be especially trained on how to look for exploited children and how to address the issue. District attorneys have to understand we will accept only zero tolerance and we all have to take responsibility. We will have to harp on this subject and keep the heat on to get action.

The FBI is aggressively investigating sex trafficking in Atlanta and hope to begin making some headway. But everyone of us should be so enraged that we look into every suspicion we might have of any child being exploited and call the FBI to report those suspicions. Any adult who would have anything to with a child sexually should be so looked down upon that his neighbors would haul him off to jail tarred and feathered. Let them know we won’t stand for it any longer. If any man suspects his friend or neighbor he must turn him in to law enforcement. We can’t look the other way and let children suffer for these animals perverseness.

Social awareness and participation will thwart the menace of our society. But with the economic downturn, many will dare the embarrassment to fill an empty stomach. That is a bigger problem to solve. But despite of it we have to hope for the better. You have a great topic here.

Ruby, thanks for addressing this problem of throw away children. There was a lot of them in NY when I lived there. It is so hard to uncover all of it but so important to do so. My neighbors and I would call the police about some little children we would see sleeping under a car while their mother turned tricks, and the police acted like we were the ones who were crazy. They & we need to be more aware & vigilant.

Thank you dear friends for your interest and support. This is one problem that will never go away until parents are responsible for their child and adult criminals are put away so they can’t prey on the children. We can report any suspicions we have of child neglect and child abuse. As Judy says the police don’t want to be bothered with something that is only going to receive a slap on the wrist. But these few programs that are getting started would never have happened if people hadn’t started demanding action. So we must keep reporting to the police wheather they appreciate it or not.Keep the heat on so they can’t look the other way.

Clay, then you are one who knows the heartache of the mistreated child. You know the pain and anguish. We know these children will need help to get on with a stable life. I’m glad you have been able to do that.

It makes me so sad to think that a human can treat another human like that. Somehow, they must have no conscience, and only greed for the money it provides, or greed to satisfy their own selves without regard to others. Thanks for writing this, Ruby.

Children are a gift from God and to abuse them in this way is the worst of crimes. I really can’t understand how an adult could do something like this. I have to stop, I can’t say anymore.
