Dear John,
Another year has come and gone. It has been twenty-nine years since that coward Chapman shot you down in cold blood, taking away from us one of the greatest musical icons the world has ever known. I remember sitting in my apartment that tragic evening with a few friends, listening to the radio, when the news of your passing blasted over the speakers. We were stunned. It took a while for the news to really sink into our minds that you were really gone.
You lived the penultimate dream. A poor lad from Liverpool, finding just the right mates to bring together one of the most popular bands ever assembled. After a few short years, you rose to the top with your beautiful melodies and wonderful harmonies. I know you all had your differences at times, but four fellows spending that much time together would tend to have arguments. I know this, because I was also in a band. It is not easy for everyone to get along all the time. One person wants a melody to go this way and another person wants a melody to go that way.
The world will never forget the stupendous and daring creativity the Beatles created, growing in stature and growing musically year after year. BY the time the last album was released, we all realized it was time to go your separate ways. Your solo albums were also fantastic. You were a brave man to be such an activist when people were against you. You always stood up for what you believed in, no matter what the world thought and said. I know you paid a heavy price for those things you did, but all you ever wanted was a world of peace and love.
It is ironic that you had finally found your way to the happy life you wanted, just releasing your best solo album ever, when that fateful night arrived. You influenced generations of people with your music and you will never be forgotten. Wherever you are now, I hope you are finally at peace.
