A Neat Arrangement

Abuse and control.

He smelt of foul, stale sweat like a summer drain, and his armpits resembled sour, rubber waves of mouldy cheese. His saliva was slime.  And I was very frightened.  He then spun me around so I was standing with my back to him and thrust his crotch into my back and rubbed it around a little for a while. I felt upset and confused. I didn’t know how to think, what to say, or what to do next. He then let go, took a few steps back and laughed. He said that he had told his wife that I was here and that she had said “Oh yes? You’d better be careful, Colin, she could be a man eater!”

He then went back to finish the food preparation, and I finished laying the tables. On a few occasions he walked close and touched me, or pecked me on the cheek, and that awful putrescent smell always followed him. After about an hour he said that everything was ready for the reception and that he was going to take me home. In his car he put three one pound notes into my hand and thanked me for my hard work.

We got home and he came into the house with me and chatted with my parents for a few minutes. “She worked well”, he said “and earned herself three pounds”.
“Oh what a lucky girl” my mother replied. “What are you going to do with all that money?”. And my father said that I had done well to be given such a large sum. They laughed and then Colin said that he had a more engagements lined up and did I want to work again for him again?

I was twelve years old.

I read this with tears in my eyes. I could feel the hurt.
Your writing is gripping, like I told you before.
I hope you’ll put more stories on!

Dear Sarah, if this is a real story, I can feel the pain in your heart. The writing? You must go on. This is a good job.
    With love, Froukje

What a creep……..If only kids could understand that their parents would never expect something like this to happen from friends they trust. If only you would have told. I can just feel all the confusing feelings and your trust in men going way down. If this was a real story I hope you were able to forgive your parents for not knowing although I am sure it left a big scare on the relationship between you.
    Great writing Sarah.

    A story well told!
    And I am so sorry!

The percentage of young girls that goes through this nightmare is very high. I could feel your confusion, and repulsion, yet you were taught to obey adults. I feel sad reading this and knowing, you were one of these kids.
Something confusing happened to me once, when I was about 4 years old.

I hope, you didn’t feel that you had to “work” for this man again!
