A Philippine Village Shows That Zero Unemployment Rates Beget Zero Crime Rates
Despite the war in Mindanao, there’s still a village eight kilometers away from the bombings that enjoy peace.
Here and there, we hear of problems. The Philippines is assailed by different issues of poverty, hunger, and terrorism- chiefly in Mindanao. Here and there, we hear of political strife, rape, robbery, and bombings. Will it ever end?
Despite these problems, I am happy to read in a newspaper that there’s a certain village in the Philippines that has zero crime rates and zero unemployment rates. This is Loayon village in North Cotabato. Most of its inhabitants enjoy working in rubber plantations. Thanks to its hills and mountains that are planted with rubber trees, the village experiences a healthy economy.
This shows us that zero unemployment rates beget zero crime rates.
- If all of the people are able to feed their families, they will not be desperate enough to plan of stealing.
- If the people are busy working, they’ll have no time to think of mischievous acts.
To solve the world-wide problem in poverty may be the key to a more peaceful world. Let us pray then for our public officials so that they set aside their personal intentions for the benefit of the public.

This shows that it can be done. When people have jobs they feel secure and can care for their families. In America there are groups of people who have accomplished this for years. People like those of the Amish faith. They have no unemployment and no crime, or very little to speak of if any. Why can’t our leaders investigate how these groups organize their citizens to have this kind of success? Instead of finding fault with them because they do not live in a technical world as we do, We should admire them for living the simple live and being free of misery.
