Are Criminals Being Let Off Too Easily?

In this article I will argue the case on whether criminals in our society are weakly punished or not for serious crimes like murder or theft.

A recent case that occured in 1994 was the John Venbales case in where two boys, one ten the other eleven decided to kidnap a two-year old toddler from his ignorant mum by brainwashing him into thinking that they were going to give the toddler sweets. The toddler goes along with the boys’ deviant plan. They take the poor toddler under a train tunnel and now the small boy doesn’t understand why these two boys have taken him here. The two sadistic boys decide to beat the toddler up; punching him, kicking him, banging him with a stick on his head and even yet they decide to sexually harras the poor toddler. Weary from all the blows given to his body, the two-year old toddler is dragged next to ther train tracks and his head put under a broken steel bar that clamps  when pushed down. For pure entertainment the eleven year old boy and the ten year old decide to push down on the steel bar a several time so it cracks the toddler’s skull in half. Left unconcious, the two boys throw the toddler on the train tracks waiting for a train to him and thus it does hit the toddler. His body was found later on in two parts. A true story.

Now imagine what the mother of the toddler was going through at that time. The two boys sat in court with lollipops in their mouth while the judge thought up of jail sentence. Only ten years was given out just because the system declared that anyone under the age of 16 cannot be held criminally responsible. Is there justice done here or just abiding by what a few words on parchment says to our society. The year is now 2009 and the two boys are now adults freely walking our hard earned streets.
