Canada’s Top 10 Serial Killers
Some of Canada’s worst and most known serial killers. An article about the crimes they committed and where they are today.
Everything your about to read here in Canada’s 10 Most Brutal Serial Killers has all been fully researched and all you read here is the facts. No lies, stretching the truth or making up stories, all these events did take place and stand out to be some of Canada’s worst crimes ever committed against other human beings. Like any other country in the world, Canada has its own dark secrets and has produced its fair share of sick serial killers but how many of you have heard about them? Me, well I knew some of the up to date killers but others I found amazed me on how sick people could be and especially from this country. So with that said I would like to share with you 10 of the Most Brutal Serial Killers that have come from Canada. Enjoy.
Robert Pickton
Arrested in 2002 in Vancouver British Columbia, after RCMP served a search warrant at his pig farm for illegal firearms but the investigators found more than they bargained for when they stumbled across human remains in one of the slaughter houses on the farm. In early 2002 police laid their first murder charged on Pickton which eventually lead to the property being excavated and being known as one of Canada’s largest crime scene. Robert Pickton has been accused of killing over 50 prostitutes but he only claims he killed 49 because he got caught before he got the chance to do his fiftieth victim. He killed his victims, dismembered them, then gutted them and fed the remains to his pigs from 1983 to 2002 when police finally caught him. As of today Robert Pickton is now in court facing 6 more charges of first degree murder with at least 20 more murder cases pending. All charges are being laid as DNA from the crime scene comes in and gets matched with missing victims. Altogether Robert Pickton has been charged with 26 first degree murder charges. To date this is has also been the largest serial killer investigation in Canadian history.
Clifford Olson
This sick monster was an active serial killer in and all around British Columbia in the 1980’s to 1981 until being caught by police. Olson had killed 11 kids that the police knew about, that where all between the ages of 9 years old to as high as 18 years old. After being caught for the one murder Clifford Olson had made a deal with police to confess and show where 10 other children’s bodies were buried only if his wife received $100,000, basically $10,000 per body and confession. Clifford at the time of this deal said “The First One Is a Freebie”. The police made the deal so families could have closure about their missing loved ones. In Jan 1982 Olson pleaded guilty to 11 counts of first degree murders and got 11 concurrent life sentences. In 1997 Clifford Olson was eligible for parole but of course was denied.

the pikton case reminds me of something you would see on the tv show “criminal minds”. It’s hard to believe it is actually a true story and has occurred in my country. Such a sin.

I dont understand how Clifford Olson was given 11 concurrent life sentences but then eligible for parole in 1997. I know he didn’t get parole but how could he have possibly ever even been eligible?!?!

Paul Bernardo has got to be one of the sickest people who has lived in our time he has brought sorrow to many families not only the families of the three girls that he is known to have abducted, raped and murdered but to an unknown number of people who knew these young ladies. As for his partner in crime Karla Holmolka she and Mr Barnardo both should have got the death sentance,It would appear that the justice system we hold so dear has once again let us all down.

I personally lived through the Paul and Karla crap all the way back to the scarborough rapists stuff. I was one of 5000 ppl in Ontario that matched the description of the drawings given out to police sketch artists. the police came to my home and asked for hair and saliva samples , though I never heard back from them. once the murders started I followed the events of them all the way into the apprehention of both Paul and Karla , never once connecting Paul to the scarborough rapist until they showed him on TV the first time . then you could see the police artist was dead on with the sketch. after the sentencing I even went as far as to read the book on the whole case to try and get some insight into what would cause ahuman to do such things , yet to this day I still can not grasp what makes a person want to kill once never mind multiple times. I am currently reading a book called Butcher about Robert Pickton , yet another Canadian serial killer but I am finding it hard to follow as the writer is an american and is very repeditive , so if anyone knows of a Canadian author that has written about the Pickton murders I would appreciate some input . ( all hail the greatest true crime writer Max Haines )

Clifford Olson was NOT eligible for parole in 1997, as the entry states. He was permitted in 1997 to seek to have his parole ineligibility reduced from 25 years under a Faint Hope hearing, a section of the Canadian Criminal Code. He failed and the government changed the law so that multiple murderers are no longer eligible for Faint Hope hearings.
Olson had a parole hearing for the first time in 2006 and was denied release.
You can read the full text of the parole decision and his current status here:

Technically, Marc Lépine was not a serial killer, he was a mass murderer.
I’m not saying this to exonorate him; he just belongs on a different list with the likes of Eric Harris and Seng Hui Cho.

Anna, don’t you mean you visited the Kingston Penitentiary, not the Kinston Penatentury. Hope you didn’t have to write a report on the visit. you would fail on spelling errors alone.

Marc Lepine does not belong on this list, he is NOT a serial killer, he is a mass murderer, they are two very different things. I find it odd that you put him on here and that he is the only mistake you made, the rest is all correct, but Lepine is no serial killer. Think about the word “serial”, there needs to be a series, his killings were all in a single incident.

Looks like I should have read the reples, someone beat me to it.
I’m not sure how so many people who make lists like this can do all that fact finding and still make the mistake of putting mass murderers or spree killers on lists with serial killers.
Canada seems to have a lot less serial killers than other countries, despite a population of 30 million. We are neighbours with the serial killing capital of the world, the United States and yet we have far fewer killers, granted our population is much smaller, but per capita they have a higher rate I believe.
Interesting fact, per capita Australia has had the most serial killers on record.

an eye for an eye you know im sure most if not all of those psychotics do not deserve to live after all theyve done its cases like those that i wish we had the death penalty. In the states you just kill one police oficer and you get the death penalty you have a creep who rapes and murders young children and live….where,s the justice in that.None of them im sure have any remorse.

On June 16, 2009 at 9:00 pm
a- Marc Lepine is a multiple murderer, not a serial killer. If you don’t know the difference, you probably aren’t the right person to be giving out information on a website. Research the definition of the term serial killer before you make your little psuedo-intellectual lists.
b- to #34, “psychotic” is a mental health term which refers to a delusional break with reality. The proper term for what you’re referring to is “psychopath”, sometimes interchanged with “sociopath”, and that’s an important difference. Psychotics aren’t always dangerous. Actually, one could be a sub-clinical sociopath and also not be dangerous. Many successful lawyers and doctors are sub-clinical sociopaths. Read: “The Sociopath Next Door” … interesting book.

Serial Killers is the actual term used in Psycology for these Criminals. It is an actual psycological disease, and it can not be cured. However, there hasn’t been a serial killer on the face of the planet that hasn’t prayed to be caught. It is like haveing double personality. The good vs. the bad. Good can only hold so long. Also, it is a proven fact that serial killers are created by post traumatic stress, from child hood. Maybe instead of mankind consintrating so much on Serial Killers, they actually get down to the cause. This cause, child abuse, happens far more often than anyone wants to admit.

Yes, she knows, and she endorses it. As do 9 out of 10 doctors.
Australia probably has a lot of serial killers because it was originally a dumping ground for criminals. Where do you think Paul Hogan got that big knife from?

It’s funny that the United States is the ’serial killing capital of the world’ when Australia seems to have more per capita. Bias, methinks?

they reason the author says ‘you never hear about canadian serial killers’ is because he’s not canadian. Everyones heard of the Montreal school incident, we have a whole day deticaded to it. And I’d say everyone has heard of karla and paul they made a movie about them a couple years ago with donna from that 70’s show.
And sociopath and psychopath arn’t interchangable, they act teh same but weren’t made the same. A sociopath was ‘made’ like said in another post, usually by some form of child abuse. A psychopath is born with out a consious and usually starts acting violent earlier. Dexter and Hanibal would be a sociopath and Hitler would probably considred a psycopath (though it’s arguable)

actually, the pickton case inspired a show on criminal minds, i dont remember what it was called but it involved a pig farm and that the man fed his victims to his pigs. it may also had taken place in canada, i cant recall
many of the criminal minds episodes are based off real life serial murders.

I am beginnining to believe that Canada’s non capital punishment policy is wrong.
Clifford Olsen, Paul Brenado, Robert Pickton, will never be released from prison, or atleast I do not hope so.
But. it will cost the Canadian people atleast $350/ per day to keep this rabid scum alive…
$4-$5 million each… could this money not be better used to help unwed mothers. better prenatial care… These individuals should die. And no leathal injection, no firing squad. they do not diserve this honor or consideration, and no ten or twenty years on death row…

I have to say I am largely disappointed in this article – in its entirety. Not only is the research incomplete but it is poorly interpreted. What\’s more troubling is the grammar and spelling. Trivial as it may seem, if you are going to post an informational article for the world to see, bad grammar is a huge strike against you as far as credibility. How can this author expect to be taken seriously with such lack of basic education, let alone thorough research? Please understand that I am operating on the assumption that this article was written by one or more adults – highschool students at the very youngest. I must retract my criticism to a certain degree in such a case where this writer(s) is of middle school age or younger. I will now move on in hopes of finding a more reliable source on this topic.

I\’ve done time with some of these creeps, and you people for the most part,don\’t really know just how f\’d up these slimeballs really are. They are a complete waste of good air! They should be boiled in oil an inch at a time starting at the feet and slowly lowered so they can really feel the pain that they\’ve caused others. But instead they are housed in minimum security day camps.I hope they rot in HELL.
Piss on them!!!
On August 10, 2011 at 9:50 pm
ppl like this should be staked by their hands and feet… pissed in their mouths, then shot in all their extremities to experience just a PORTION of the pain and suffering that they put these families thru
as for Pickton, i agree with his concept… but not the way he did it………..

I would just like to make the correction that Montreal is in Quebec, not in Ontario(I noticed in a couple of the articles that it said “Montreal,Ontario”), fascinating information about these people though! I have followed almost all of these stories, but there is only so much the media tells us on tv.
It would be interesting to poke around inside these people’s heads and find out what makes them “tick”

Linz,
I don’t suppose you mean that if you are not educated in grammar you don’t have a right to express yourself in a serial killer discussion. Who could think that way? Yes the spelling and grammar here is less than perfect but just because you have learned better ways to express yourself it does not follow that those who for some reason have not, ought not be allowed to comment. Shame on you. If you don’t like the comments, if they don’t pass your English requirements then go somewhere else. This forum is about much more important issues then you bring so whats with that? Get over yourself
