Card Member Services Phone Scam
A phone scam has been plaguing a number of people in the United States, a false company representing themselves as a legitimate entity, to prey on the trustworthy. And they do seem to be the persistent little company, despite the complaints of many people to the authorities.
Have you received a call from Rachel from Card Member Services? About how your credit card is all fine and you can potentially lower your interest rates, or something along those lines. A rather curious thing to ask and then they request some personal information. That is what should set off the alarm bells in the head of every single person reading this.
For those who don’t know, a phishing scam is an attempt to gain the personal information of a person, by means that appear to be legit to the untrained eye. This is most commonly associated with e-mail or websites, but it is not uncommon for a phishing scam to be utilized in other mediums, such as a phone call.
Remember the golden rule of common sense and that’s a company will never, under any circumstances request your personal information. Most companies make this as crystal clear as crystal clear can be, especially when they have to deal with money such as credit card companies or banking.
Card Member Services of What?
It is rather amusing that most people get these calls from Card Member Services, don’t recall signing up for such a first thing in the first place. And it appears that when some uncomfortable questions are asked, the representatives of this company hang up right away. A rather telling sign that this is a scam and a rather huge one at that, to prey on people who don’t ask too many questions, who will willingly give their personal information.
Identity theft is a rather common crime. That is been known and sadly, there are some people out there who are a bit too trusting for their own good, especially when it pertains to their personal information.
Complaints Falling Upon Deaf Ears
Card Member Services have had many people request that they stop calling. And often times the calls keep happening. So some people take the next possible step and contact the proper authorities. Naturally this does not appear to be working, given this has been a problem for many people for quite some time. Card Member Services appears to be quite the persistent cockroaches, unable to be properly stomped out as we had hoped. Reports to the National No Call Registry even have fallen upon deaf ears and obviously there are more pressing concerns than a company trying to scam people about of their private information.
At one time, a phone number could be unlisted and thus mostly prevented from certain parties calling it. In this day and age, a Google savvy person might be able to unearth a phone number for many people. It is a rather chilling thought, as if someone wanted to torment a person badly, it would be bad.
So what to do about these people? I would personally advise not indulging them. It is like feeding an Internet troll, if you give them attention, they’ll just keep bothering you. The moment Card Member Services calls, hang up on them. If you do feel inclined to report them to any and all authorities, feel free. You might be the one complaint that causes someone important enough to get off their butt and shut these people down. And remember, a reputable company, no matter what circumstances, will ever ask for your personal information.

I agree with you… they are persistent but we should not entertain them so they don’t keep on bothering us… thanks for sharing.

oh great! i got a similar call, too. and the lady called around 4pm. said she was from Credit Card Services. She was very polite and professional. i almost believed she was genuine until she started asking for my. that ticked the alarms off. if she wasnt a scammer, she’d do well as a salesperson.
