Should Casey Anthony have been acquitted? This is the question that has gripped the nation since Tuesday when Casey Anthony was pronounced not guilty of murdering her 2-year-old daughter three years ago. This brings into question the doubts over the claims of the defense attorneys who claimed that the little girl drowned accidentally in the family swimming pool. They contended that Casey was apparently carefree but inwardly she was concealing the emotional distress caused by sexual abuse from her father.

The prosecutor contention is as follows

1)      Casey got a tattoo with the Italian words “beautiful life” a day before the family and the police learnt of the child’s disappearance

2)      Casey was happily  partying in a nightclub in the month Caylee went missing

3)      Casey fabricated many stories; She told her parents that  Caylee was with a nanny named Zanny , an imaginary woman. She claimed to have a job at the Universal Studios, another lie. She claimed that she was in Jacksonville, Fla., along with her daughter in the company of a rich boyfriend who is non existent. She also claimed that the nanny  Zanny had been hospitalized in  a traffic crash and she and Caylee were with her

Casey’s lawyer contended that she lied doesn’t lead to the conclusion that she killed the child.

Following are the doubts that lead the jury to give the accused the benefit of doubt

1)      Casey’s DNA was not found on the duct tape that was used to suffocate Cayley.

2)      It could not be ascertained whether the putrid smell inside the family’s car was due to a decomposing body.

As the burden of proof was with the prosecutors and they failed to come up with, convincing evidence, Casey was acquitted.

The role played by Casey’s attorney Baez is phenomenal in this case. Many analysts comment that in the end, the superior skills of Baez had won them the case.

The delay in finding the remains of the child also played a vital role. As the child’s remains were found after six months, a big disadvantage to the scientific investigation was caused, creating strong doubts over the cause of death.

As there was no evidence that could irrefutably link Casey with the murder, Tuesday’s decision did not come as a surprise for legal experts. Of course no one can be pronounced guilty without the court’s verdict and the court has announced  that Casey was not the murderer, but a chapter of controversies has been opened which will be discussed until the public gets busy with the next interesting issue!
