Child Pornography, Sex Offenders and the Mess That is the Federal Prison System
Whats wrong with the Federal Prison system.
The whole Sex Offender registrations process needs to be overhauled. When you think of someone who is a registered sex offender what do you automatically think of? When you say sex offender most of you immediately think child molester, someone who’s raped a child an evil and vile person who doesn’t deserve to live. This is NOT ALWAYS THE CASE. People today can be required to register as a sex offender for doing nothing more than even having downloaded a photo that is considered child pornography. We aren’t talking JUST about the people to take the pictures and and produce the porn or are featured in the pictures, we are talking about ANYONE who downloads a picture that is child porn. Even if you have downloaded a picture like that and it was an accident or say someone got it in their email and sends it to you and says hey look what some perv sent me, well guess what, you BOTH just downloaded it and can now BOTH be sentenced to a MANDATORY MINIMUM of 5 YEARS in a Federal Prison. Then when you get out of prison you will be required to register as a SEX OFFENDER for doing nothing more than downloading a picture.
You say this isn’t possible? WRONG !!! I know this because it has happened to someone very close to me and this nightmare just continues.
This person had NEVER been in any trouble of any kind, went to church and was a model citizen in every respect. Getting into on line chat rooms on yahoo he was asked to trade gay porn by a guy he had been talking to on line, the guy had befriended him and every time he logged on there was the guy on line to greet him. The guy sent him a file that contained 27 photos and in those photos there were 5 pictures that were child porn, he never asked this guy for child porn in any of the conversations they had. About a month later the guy asked him if he still had the pictures that he sent him and that if he did to send them to him because hi PC crashed and he lost all of his pictures. Well he didn’t have them on his PC but they were still in the old email file so he just forward the old email back to the guy.

My brother is in a similar situation only his “crime” was for downloading using Kazaa. It was never proven who did download this heinous material but there was evidence that his wife did it and blamed it on him. The feds were not interested in that. They picked out the easiest one to convict and started building their case around him. The entire case was circumstantial but he was convicted and given 9 years in prison and 3 years supervised release. The rest of his life is ruined because he has to sign the sex offenders registry. His release date is for 2013 but that will depend on the Supreme Courts decision on whether it is unconstitutional to hold someone beyond their sentence. As of right now there are several inmates being held in federal prison even though they spent their time because they are considered a danger to society simply because they were convicted of a sex crime. It’s ridiculous. The USA has gone way beyond communism…..

my boyfriend got sentenced last year. he will get out in 2015. his computer was accesible by at least 3 other roomates, not to mention any of their friends. HE got in trouble for it. the fbi didn’t care that other people had access. they made him into some horrible pervert. he had 2 videos that he DELETED in his recycle bin. they call each video about 600 pics. so the newspaper said he had in his possession around 1200 pics. he wanted to fight it. if you fight it, you loose and will get more time. they black mailed him, too, and said that i would be brought up on charges also. (i’m a photographer so they wanted to say i took pics). so he plea bargained. now he looks guilty.
